Using escape pods when your ship gets destroyed.

It would be interesting to have an option before your ship gets destroyed that you can escape using a escape pod.

-There would be option to land with the escape pod on a landable planet if there is any in range (if you manage to land on a planet you will have to survive on that planet until rescued)
-Or floating in the pod with a distress beacon active waiting to be saved by either a player or by an NPC if inside a system that has a population or abducted by pirates (you will to have pay some money to get free from the pirates)

If you survive and get to a station you will not pay full rebuycost for your ship and wont lose exploration data

Back long ago there was going to be an 'Ironman' mode where you had to eject manually (or have an auto eject system that worked) on destruction.

Going on a tangent here, but imagining the escape pod to be not different from the salvaged ones, it could add a twist if someone could still shoot it, or if it could be captured by the Thargoids or worse, delivered to Etienne Dorn!
There's potential for some form of "find a way out" game loop.

Hasn’t EDO now reinvented the narrative and the whole “escape pod” thing is no totally bogus - we just “repsawn” at the last known safe location.

So, ejecting insures you won't be targeted and destroyed on the space battlefield?

Or picked up by the commander who just destroyed your ship. Sounds like a hostage situation to me?

I could see many commanders shooting you up in any event, just because you ejected after tearing up their ship.

Eject, Eject, Eject.....

Targeted, BOOM.

Pretty sure canonically you DO eject. There's no resurrection technology in this game, afaik.
Tell that to commanders that explode falling down a giant mountain in an srv post Odyssey. It's not remote projection anymore.

Or any of the now numerous ways to die

Thats something i would have in mind like that, it would open many new options like you said abduction, even from thargoids.
One of many things around the escape pod i have in mind it would contain all your data (exploration data), using an escape pod (if in private or solo play) would move you to open play and you disstrest beacon would be visible to anyone, either way you will hope and wait for rescu and so on. ( that would be great for people that are exploring for years)
Or at least for starters that you could eject a pod containing exploration data if you get destroyed the data will float at that location so you will have a chance to get it back or get it stolen by some one else

I mean the posibilites would be limitles what you can add with it.

If we had ship interior walking, there would be even more options, if you get attacked by someone (player, thargoid,NPC, space anomaly, black hole, etc) the ship won't get destroyed right away like it does now, but instead the enemy player could board or if he doesnt want to ofc destroy your ship shooting a little more, but with an escape pod ofc there would many types of escape pods (meaby enginered) that could have a emeregency jump system (it would randomly jump to any nearest system), some defence system like chaff or electromagnetic shock that will blind the enemy and ofc some limited fuel that you could use to land on a planet if any in the jumped star system.

From my view it would add some crazy survival elements to the game

But in general that is just the tip of the iceberg that i have in mind.
