Using The Camera Suite And General Filming In Elite

As this thread will disappear off this page faster than a bottle of sanitizer at Walmart I'd better get to the point.

Camera Suite. Does anyone else use it? I mean in a regular way? I love the thing, A. Because camera work is part of my real job. B. Because the planets, panoramas, the flying, the fighting and such are worth capturing on 'film' for quite a bit of the play.

I realize that for most people the playing of the game is the thing, and trying to film AND fly your ship can be both demanding and pretty impossible to be fair. But just to go out there for no reason than to film stuff is definitely rare.

And thanks to CMDR Codger, who after searching seems to be the only other person who likes doing this stuff.

2 short videos to show what can be achieved with the Camera suite and a video editor.

EDIT: I've put the videos on my old YouTube Channel (last used a year a go). I'm not after subscriptions or likes and other such things as I don't have the time to run it presently. It was just handy for me to put them on there as a platform to use :)

I sometimes play on a TV screen before a live audience of family members, I have to give them something to look at beside just the dogfights or the lightshow while I jump from one system to the next.

I'm quite good at cinematic landings/take offs and flyby's of planets and capital ships :)

Never made actual movies though, can't you just shoot 3 hrs of gameplay and edit it into a 5m clip ?

I've been thinking of creating an Elite story line, along the lines of Power Play with lots of battle scenes and people drama, sort of thing. However that could be very time consuming, maybe short stories? Dunno, have to play with that idea. I think I remember someone doing this a few years ago, a comedy thing on YouTube if I remember rightly. I'll check it out again.

Do you have any videos to share? Would be nice to get other perspectives on this filming stuff, and other ideas.

Nice vids! You have a good eye.
Thanks Codger, Takes me a lot of time in the editor, but I enjoy it. Which helps... :)

I've not had time to go through all your own posts/videos on the camera suite fully, but I will today as I'm after tips on the bindings of my HOTAS , It's still not as I want it. Also, macros, must check on that too.

The actual game is on a PS4 (to use the larger TV screen) this forum account is on a laptop, that may involve jumping a few hoops to upload them and post them here idk ?

Never actually recorded anything so far - maybe I should start there.

Of course when no one is looking or when I'm working, the ship just sits there like now - so it may be quite a boring movie.

I always try to park with a view though :)

Being an explorer, I do take quite a lot of screenshots. And the occasional video. I just hate the interface 😄
Yes, agree. The interface needs work, and it does require a (high) degree of enthusiasm to set it up as a good working system. For me I'm ALWAYS managing to hit the 'silent running' key while in camera mode and ships exploding. Well, not THAT many times, but nevertheless I must get rid of that key bind....

Nice work.
I think some people work with others, using the multicrew feature.
When you are in the other seat, you can concentrate on doing cool action shots while the pilot does all kinds manouvers.

Just play around the the suite for a while, you'll either become frustrated and bash the keyboard or take it further. I am a videographer by trade so was sort of second nature on edting, I just do s#$% loads of footage and take out say, 90%. The rest becomes usable.

Yes, I did some filming for a Wing last year, 4 of us and I just filmed the Thargoid fight while the others did the scenic stuff. That's a good use as you point out in game.

Same as him! 😀

I generally only take video for Buckyball races, no cinematic takes or anything, just functional for race proofing. I might add a soundtrack from time to time if I'm really feeling brave. Too much effort to edit long videos and honestly I'm not very good at that either.

I only did a couple times so far, because at the time I thought that my circumnavigation of Enceladus could be worth it, and honestly it seemed a shame to waste all that video footage. 😅

Oh and just a couple days ago I happened to record this on my way back to the bubble, it would have been a shame to not slap on it the best possible soundtrack for the scene.

Sorry, I forgot to confirm "save". 😅

You did some races? Cool! Can't remember which ones I might have met you in, off the top of my head.

Some nice videos there :) I like the star one, I find music can make a HUGE difference to the mood of a video, and I should explore more...
The last race, a year ago now, was up on Teide A, tried that a number of times all ending in failure :(
I also Subbed your channel, I'll take a look through your other videos.

Switching off silent running kills all covas messages, it can get quite lonely in the cockpit.(I've suffered from the SR fumble as well, but until she learns to warn me when exterior filming, she stays off until i can't take the silence anymore.)

I have a X52 Pro, I have to get the SR button changed to an unused button, thing is after the game I say, "I'll do that just before my next time in" Then I don't. :(

Have you seen this thread (and the associated YT vids)?
