Using The Camera Suite And General Filming In Elite

Have you seen this thread (and the associated YT vids)?

Hi Ashnak, I was aware of the 2015 competition, but not the 2017. There's a LOT of good stuff here to peruse. I thank you tons for this :)

Nice videos! There used to be a semi-active forum thread which was kinda like the Screenie(s) thread but for videos. Nothing posted there for a while but it's full of pretty good stuff (quite a lot of it mine I'm afraid).

I'm glad someone's already mentioned the Buur Pit. With Rheeney filiming from multi-crew while Buur flies the ship, their videos really are some of the best I've ever seen. Here's a couple of my favourite examples.

And yeah, I too make short(ish) videos - pretty much all of either SRV driving or Buckyball Racing. I've got hundreds on my channel by now probably but here's a bunch of my favourites.

On the camera suite there's also a pretty good guide over here: the-commanders-camera-suite-controls

Let me add one more (ok, only because I have a statist role in there somewhere...)

The first time I've heard (or seen) this. Would make a great intro for a YouTube Channel.
"Let's Jump Together" Should be part of the official Elite Logo.

Oooh, sorry - forgot a couple. Firstly there's a guy called Tikas who made some terrific Elite: Dangerouss videos - really nicely filmed and edited. For example ..

As for more narrative led videos, THE single best Elite: Dangerous story teller of all-time is still the legend that is Isinona. Go check out his channel here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCjgBlzLxsgbVuHfZPe0AeIg

And lastly (I think - there's soooo many to choose from -), perhaps my all-time favourite Elite: Dangerous video from wayyyyyyyyy back right at the beginning of the game but it still gets me every time (it's probably the music to be honest).

P.S. Sorry for swamping this thread, I'll shut up now I promise!

Cheers Alec, The Buur Pit couple make probably the best videos for Elite from what I've seen. Definitely the team to beat, as they say.
I'll take a look at the controls link, it's what I'me working on at the moment (well not THIS moment, later) :)

As this thread will disappear off this page faster than a bottle of sanitizer at Walmart I'd better get to the point.

Camera Suite. Does anyone else use it? I mean in a regular way? I love the thing, A. Because camera work is part of my real job. B. Because the planets, panoramas, the flying, the fighting and such are worth capturing on 'film' for quite a bit of the play.

I realize that for most people the playing of the game is the thing, and trying to film AND fly your ship can be both demanding and pretty impossible to be fair. But just to go out there for no reason than to film stuff is definitely rare.

And thanks to CMDR Codger, who after searching seems to be the only other person who likes doing this stuff.

2 short videos to show what can be achieved with the Camera suite and a video editor.

EDIT: I've put the videos on my old YouTube Channel (last used a year a go). I'm not after subscriptions or likes and other such things as I don't have the time to run it presently. It was just handy for me to put them on there as a platform to use :)

Nice work.
What software would you recommend to edit the videos? And for the capture?
I've been around PC's for longer than I care to mention, but never really looked at this kind of thing. Perhaps I should....

I personally use Streamlabs OBS for capture, also OBS Studio (both do the same job, recording or streaming) and Adobe Premiere Pro for editing. I use these for my work so my business pays for the Abobe Software, Streamlabs OBS is free.

Here are a few links to help with deciding what to use, from free to paying, there's a large bunch to choose from. Although they all do the same job by and large.

For Video Editing - https://www.pcmag.com/picks/the-best-video-editing-software
Video Capture - https://filmora.wondershare.com/screen-recorder/best-free-video-captures.html

There's also Nvidia's own Shadowplay screen/game capture. Link here: https://www.howtogeek.com/259573/how-to-record-your-pc-gameplay-with-nvidia-shadowplay/

There's also a lot of good info added to this thread of course from the helpful chaps on this forum, plenty of links too!

Hope this helps :)

Many thanks for the reply!

First, thanks for opening this thread, hopefully it's the right place to get an answer to what might be a dumb question.
I've spent most of my time in the cockpit of a DBX, but recently took a K2 on a mining expedition.Wishing to take a snap of my new PJ, i was playing around with the camera views and came upon the co-pilot 2 view. Here's the dumb question. Is this new, or have there always been 2 views?

If I wasn’t a totally incompetent pilot the PS4 wouldn’t be awful for this. It wouldn’t look as pretty, but you can record up to 15 min of gameplay at a time, edit and trim the clips, then use the Share Factory app to stitch them together I believe. I tried to do something similar for my PES match highlights when I managed something cool!

I haven’t read through the entire thread so sorry if someone else has beaten me to this!

I do love using the camera suite for a cinematic 3rd person view, space is gloriously beautiful most of the time. If I was confident of my pew-pew skills (hint: I’m not!) it’d be great to record a cinematic space battle, especially with FA off!

I did this for a 'wing' 2 years ago, enjoyed it a lot, huge fun. Being 'not part' of the battle gives great freedom to experiment.
I'd like to do something like this again, battle scenes are difficult to film as you have to be in a lot of places at the same time. But with some skill, patience and LOADS of filming you could get some really cool footage.
