Using the Thrustmaster on PS4

I have it. I love it, BUT I have one question to start (more will follow, I'm sure), so for anyone else out there in my situation, here goes:

1. Is there button mapping? I am currently not using L3 or R3 for anything, and I'd kinda like to (for example, mapping the kill warrant scanner to one of those).

Other than the dedicated PlayStation buttons one can pretty much map any command to the Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS 4 on a PlayStation other than the basic PS buttons as you have lots of alternatives per flight rotation, camera views and dialing in an SRV to your liking. A player can even use the PS buttons with a secondary button command. The HOTAS and the Dual Shock 4 controller default settings are both very well designed although I tweak the SRV settings a little per my play style. While Frontier nailed the Dual Shock 4 controller the Thrustmaster will give you an edge with the yaw control. Then again if you suck at combat neither the HOTAS or the DS4 will save you. It is never about the controller but all about your skills in the game.

My post linked in my signature may help you \/

Bought the HOTAS yesterday, and really like it. But after remapping some controls, I've run into an issue. Now, while it's doing the button combos, it's also doing what the first button does on its own. Even the default ones. For example, Square and Left looks to the left panel, but also deploys weapons at the same time. When i hold Square, I no longer get the screen showing the key combos, it just deploys/retracts weapons.

It seems to have changed the buttons to act on button press, rather than button release. How do I fix other than switching back to the (frankly poor) default thrustmaster controls?

I only use the hotas, and do not have the ds4 plugged in. It would seem that those player who do have both plugged in have more issues simular to your's. I've seen a video where as they recomend that if you plug in your ds4 be mindful to only use the touch pad and or the earphone jack and do not utilize any of the buttons. True or not, I don't know. But it stands to reason, if one reconfigures a hotas button and then presses a ds4 button which hasn't been and can't be reconfigured their's gonna be conflict. And or, make sure your reconfigure settings on the ps4 which has a master check mark is checked. Or there will be more conflic even if you only use one device. ED has it own controller reconfiguration menu, which can and does conflict with the ps4's reconfiguration menu.

In the words of a famous TV and or film Doctor, not to be confused with the doctor we've all fallen in love with here in this forum. "Dam it Jim, it's a console not a pc". Ok ok, those wern't the exact words but you get it right. LOL

I have had similar things happen when switching between ds4/HOTAS without turning the game off entirely. I very often just put my PS4 to sleep mode, and it seems like some weird things can happen if you use both controllers. Unfortunately, you might have to shut the game down, start it with the HOTAS, switch to the HOTAS defaults and re-set the keys that you have altered.

I am really hoping they add control profiles that you can save and swap through in the near future to eliminate this stuff!

How long is the cord on the thrustmaster and can I use the cord for my ps4 controller for the thrustmaster?

The cord from one unit to the other is only a half meter or so and hard wired to both devices the stick and the throttle. The cord going to the ps4 is a couple of meters and if you have an adapter yes you can make it longer.

Like I said, it's a console not a pc. It will always have issues when it comes to controlers. The ps4 version of ED allows for the use of a hotas 4 and or the ds4. Though if you utilzed both, the ds4's buttons can and will mess up the hotas 4 configurations. Primerally, the ds4 finger pad or what ever it's called and the earphone jack are the only things that will not effect sometimes the configuration of the hotas 4. Yes, there is a device one can purchase to utiize a hotas x instead of the hotas 4. But it also has issues which are not covered by Sony support. Only the hotas 4 and ds4 are the official supported devices to be utilized.

The PS4 being a console is absolutely not a barrier to control profiles. The game can already save a control scheme. To eliminate the problems for people switching between DS4 and HOTAS, we just need them to patch in the ability for the game to save separate control schemes that can be activated once logged in with the controller being used for that session.

This has nothing to do with what hardware Sony chooses to support :)

Is it me, or is the galaxy map a fracking nightmare to use with the HOTAS? I can't seem to change the viewing angle at all? I can move around the map, but the angle is always looking down at around 45 degrees. Am I doing something wrong? If not, this may be the final straw with the HOTAS.

There is a FAQ in the Frontier Support area that warns us to start the game with the HOTAS if we're going to use it for primary control rather than the regular controller. I've found I can use the HOTAS then when I get a chat request PS button out, start up the controller, plug in the headphone, accept the request, then go back to where I was in the game with no problems.

I have a love/maybe not so much relationship with the Thrustmaster HOTAS 4. I have two. The first one I got lasted about a month or so before the yaw started to drift to port at random times. That'll really ruin a landing. I tried to get something done through Thrustmaster, but I only do Linux on my own hardware and they require a video of it being tested on Windows. I understand they want to be sure I'm not scamming them, but that still doesn't mean I have a Windows box. So, since I can't imagine flying ED with anything but a HOTAS, and they're the only one licensed for the Playstation, I got another one. This time I got the replacement plan.

I found the map much the same
stick u/d/l/r moves
yaw rotates
square+ u/d moves up/down
L/R 2 zooms.

Took me a while to find the square +up/down.

Might not be square - top of the 3 thruster buttons.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to get one.
