Using XBox Controller in Odyssey

I'm trying to use an XBox controller exclusively for the foot stuff. I need some help please. I have "Interact" set to the "A" button, and I can interact with the elevator to call it, but I can't enter the elevator because I can't select "Lobby" with the "A" button. I've tried setting "secondary interact" to another button and that doesn't work either. I can still enter the elevator if I use the mouse, but that's not my goal; I want just the XBox controller for the foot stuff.
 
Can confirm, I used default Xbox bindings on controller and though I can interact initially, I couldnt do any further.

Interact with lift, can't select to go to concourse.
Interact with shopkeep, can't select any options.
Had to select further with mouse.

Interacting with the little computers scattered around the place left me with nothing, oddly enough. Had to turn around to leave them.

I was going to look through the controller bindings (used M+KB in Alpha), but I wanted to leave it for another day.

Thanks EvoBeardy. Everything FDev does is half-baked. The very first thing you need to do is take an elevator, and you can't do that with a controller. Great QA they have.
 
The game fails to recognize my wireless Xbox controller when launched with Steam. Do any of you guys meet that issue? I can't wait to fail taking the elevator because of the next bug....

Yup, same issue. It's only a knock-off controller but it worked fine in the alpha, now it just won't read it, at all.

Messed this message up, repeat for others.

Go to your library and right click Elite Dangerous, select "Properties" and then go select the controller menu item. First drop down on top, disable Steam input for controller, and your good to go. Lots of games have this issue if they have native controller support.

Thanks! I managed to get my controller working. Didn't try VR yet for GPU reasons but I surely hope that It'll work, one day.

This is NOT a bug.

I FINALLY figured this out. If you are on PC with controller (No other controllers like HOTAS), it works fine, as it did on my non-VR OLED TV setup.

The problem was with HOTAS on my VR setup, the menu selection is assigned to a HOTAS key, which I normally use when piloting. But you can also bind the controller "X" or "A" as well.

Go to Options -> Controls -> General Controls , 1st item "Interface Mode". Select the 4th in list "UI Panel Select" and set the second column to your controller button you want to use as menu select. Leave the HOTAS setting alone or whatever you were using while piloting.

This will now allow you to GO TO CONCOURSE, board your ship, etc.

PS: You will also need to assign ALL the UI controls in this section to something on the controller, so you can navigate through columns, rows, pages, etc.

There are serious issues with using a controller AND Hotas together. I asked these in live streams and pinged Sally about them. If you use an xbox controller for on foot for example you cannot jetpack properly as it goes only in one short burst and won't allow a hold function.
Also despite mapping the correct buttons to both Hotas and xbox controller, in the galaxy map while using the Hotas you cannot use the hold A function to quick route to anywhere as the hold function only then works on your xbox controller for some reason. (the issue tracker link covers both)

Also while using the xbox controller while on foot the item wheel to bring up stuff like medkits and energy cells has an inverted horizontal with no way to change it back. This may only be a problem with Hotas connected but I'm not sure.

I have highlighted both of these and would appreciate a response on whether they will be dealt with in patch 5 or not. It is such a shame that this type of QA was not done before release as Frontier had to know that a great number of their players play with hotas and controller together and I've been banging on about trying to get confirmation for this because it will likely affect consoles too and if they haven't noticed a problem with using hotas and controller together, the console launch will be even more scuffed!

I use a HOTAS and XB gamepad and have none of those issues? I can invert axes for both wheels, and jepacking works on the gamepad since the first alpha. No idea why it wont work over at you.

So thanks so much for helping with feedback on this, because I'm naturally not seeing further contributions to one of the issues despite them being raised a fair bit by Piglet (thank you for nudging!).
Really trying to figure it out, it's not just going to fall to the wasteside regardless :) Checks will be done.
