Utter incompetence

beg to disagree. the point of transactions is that it can be counted on that they complete or else you get a notification. simple.

proper transaction implementation isn't really that hard, but you would dismay at what i've seen done through the years. from pure neglect to the use of sophisticated frameworks with automatic transaction management without actually a clue about their workings. from these far too common bugs that have happened in almost any server interaction (missions, notifications, bounties, ...) it seems frontier is affected too. yep, definitely plain and simple incompetence.

here's some place with appropriate space to put some lame excuses based on the complexity of a p2p system no one asked for, or whatever other funky bee es: [].

I recall you've mentioned you are involved with code debugging or bug reports. But do you really rate a small bug as this as a blanket judgement of incompetence on Frontier's part? Or are you just biased in favor of some other competing firm or entity with their own software or game. I also recall your post in the JWE forum soon after release scolding new players they bought into another Frontier ripoff or some such and despite that Frontier still won out and sold a million copies and many still enjoyed the game, and all got a free update of more dinosaurs a couple of weeks after launch. How about NMS? Mass Effect: Andromeda? with their own myriad of apparent often occurring serious bugs. How is ED such a mess and worse than those. Sounds like rubbish to blow it out of proportion. From the sound of it, Frontier made their own UI working with their own engine probably with their own frameworks from the ground up. Much more ambitious than many run of the mill games which license an engine, or outsource whatever other frameworks and still have thousands of bugs such as SC alpha x.x year after year. Fine, sure they could put in some more traps in the code that said "client x lost connection; trying to reconnect; failed, restarting instance" blah. But they probably have a prioirty of other bugs they need to work on. From the enjoyment of myriad of players who've spent hours playing the game , most got their money's worth and then some despite the supposed hypochondriac trolling of minor irritations of a few bugs that hardly ever occur within a year of gameplay.

Waiting over 15 minutes for the remaining 1 minute module transfer. Only signing out and back in resolved the failure to update the module's location and availability.

Aside from fanboys, sockpuppets, and trolls, we all experience the frustration of Frontier giving us both expensive and slow module/ship transfer. At the very least they might do it right.

You don't need to be a fanyboy, sockpuppet or troll to spot rudeness and an insulting speech patterns in a post. I can assure you that about 98% of those people are just social enough to speak up against this attitude. Just look at your posts name and you know why I am writing this (at least I hope you do).

not at all! bugs happen, we're human. that's what qa is for ... oh wait! :)

no, as i also explained it's the recurrence of these sort of bugs that hints at incompetence. this is very basic stuff, so i'm not implying devs are complete idiots, they are actually quite capable, it's just that they collectively (architects, implementors and qa experts) fail to ensure very basic universal software requirements and practices. that's ... incompetence.

i've not implied anything of the sort. also, building your own engine doesn't excuse broken transactions. how about your bank tells you that next time you have to move money around and it gets lost? :D

you seem to take this very emotionally. be my guest, but i'm being quite objective and neutral. i could comb the bug reports and patch notes and fish out all transaction related bugs for you, the ones i've been reading for years (with a mix of giggles and facepalms) so you get a picture but ... i'm not going to do that, i hope you understand. :x

i'll give you one thing: from the description it is not really clear if this particular bug is a mishandled transaction, probably not. it could be bad ui component design or just a refresh bug, or that the 'transfer' option was just mashed together by a junior ina hurry who didn't really understand the ui logic. could be anything. still, it's broadly in the same category.

so other games are similarly buggy? well, then from a software engineering viewpoint they're incompetent too! what do you want me to say?

, but i'm being quite objective and neutral.

lol, from what I've seen. And I'm not interested in seeing your collection from your line of work. But be my guest and show what you've combed of ED bug reports and what ED has done so incompetently. I'm sure there are many who would disagree. ED is not similarly buggy compared to other games that are. Stop trying to weasel out of the lost argument. lol.

then i suggest you argue with those many instead of with me, since you seem easily disturbed by facts and evidence.

I dont know, you don't seem to recognize what are 'facts and evidence' concerning ED, especially that's it's not an incompetent product. Anyways, I've proved my points. Tshuss.

I think this entire thread speaks more to the community's incompetence in general.

Oh, a 50K transfer when you make 10 million a minute with literally any credit meta that 90% of any player abuses anyways because that's all they see when they google how to make money in Elite Dangerous. Big whup.

It's not the assassination missions which were the one engaging thing that were simultaneously nerfed and dramatically increased in stupidity by making every enemy do 2x as much damage while pay is equivalent to non-wing missions. Oh no, it's that which was ruining the game economy, not literally every credit meta since 1.4's Sothis.

Oh no, I had to relog, big whup. The utter incompetence is a minor inconvenience, not the completely flawed balancing and game design that has been plaguing this game since 1.0? This is why Elite's a flipping joke. All people care about is their convenience and getting their money as fast as possible, not about the integrity of game design and longevity of the game. Unfortunately this being FDev's first major multiplayer experience, they don't know what's good and bad advice to listen to. Unfortunately, it seems like the vast majority have almost no knowledge about what goes into game design and would rather complain about the most minor of issues that get in the way of instant gratification.

That's a real gamebreaker. The only logical course of action is to immediately ragequit.

You should also boycott the forum.

I agree that it's somewhat silly that we have to get out of outfitting and back in to see the updates, but ...

possibly the incompetence comes into play with those of us who don't think to get out and back into outfitting for 15 minutes.

;)

I would agree with you Stigbob, but recently ive become more aware of the plight of local trolls. They are spoonfed a diet of only open LEP spacelegs, and this narrow diet is lacking vital variety of vitamins and salts and is badly affecting their health and welfare. They are becoming lazy and listless, and frankly seem depressed. There is no shine in their eyes, their fur patchy & hide is covered in barnacles. They are increasingly bloated and gaseous..

Our Trolls need this kind of general stupidity thread, to give them the diversity in their diet that they need for their longterm health. If we care about the exodiversity of our forum, we should encourage this kind of idiocy to persist.

Carry on OP, I see you as a heroic ecowarrior. o7

Indeed they need sustenance from this kind of thread title, often with misspelled words. Then when posting they tack on another potshot issue such as the perceived horrid p2p instancing. Sometimes I think they'll only be happy if FD seriously blunders, overpromises too quickly , becomes irresponsible and turns into a SC mess ( like not doing p2p and attempting to do everything overscoped from the outset even though not technically feasible at the time with the limited dev resources. )

Hey there Delilah
Don't you worry about the distance
I'm right there if you get lonely

Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
Oh it's what you do to me
What you do to me
Hey there Delilah
A thousand miles seems pretty far
But they've got planes and trains and cars
I'd walk to you if I had no other way
Our friends would all make fun of us

and we'll just laugh along because we know
That none of them have felt this way
Delilah I can promise you
That by the time we get through
The world will never ever be the same
And you're to blame

Maybe FD no sane person would sit in the outfitting screen for so long whilst awaiting the transfer, they probably assumed that the player would be smart enough to go and do something else during that time period. Silly silly FD, they evidently don't know their customer base lol

Cost of an asp... 3mil. Cost of having my asp transferred from colonia to bubble? 225m. and about a day. That really makes sense.... (prices approximate)
