PS I've just found that I cannot install V2000 on Windows7 64 bits, shame.

Firstly, I do not support piracy so ensure you have a genuine copy of the game (until it is official public domain)...

Anyway.. managed after much trouble, to get V2000 running on Windows7 Ultimate 64 bit...

Using a patched exe (no cd protection) and with all files on hard disk, set v2000.exe to run in XP compatibility mode (I used service pack 2 mode... seems more stable??)...ensure 'Visual themes', 'desktop composition' and 'display scaling on high DPI settings' are all disabled...

Run the program... I get an error message (V2000 cannot run in this mode) but the game runs anyway... display resolution and renderer are adjustable (so still running even at 1024x768 with Direct3D)...

It's a lot less bovver with a hovver ..

Pleased to see that some (only a few) others are still interested in V2000 in 2014. Yes, I agree with some comments above ref Frontier maybe releasing a patch removing the CD-protection for V2000. That would be nice. I can dream ...

Myself a big fan and veteran of Zarch, PCVirus and V2000 and disappointed that V2000 was the last of the hoverplane games from Frontier.

So, a question for all the Elite folk on this forum - will there be one (of the many) ships in the new Dangerous game that is an ordinary hoverplane with simple mouse controls? And if there is, will controlling it be similar to Zarch/V2000? I've been dipping into this site regularly since Dangerous was initiated, and it seems to me that the game will have a VERY steep learning curve and require a joystick and other add-ons to play properly. Am I right on this?

Basically, I'm hoping that a small part of Dangerous will be an enhanced version of V2000 but with very superior graphics - so I can pilot a small hoverplane around new planets gliding and hovering using the trusty mouse-skills I honed and developed years ago on Zarch.

Anyone know? Hoping .. .

V2000

V2000...it's one of my fav videogames! it reminds me of my childhood, when my dad and I were playing it (well my task was press "c" or "d" to save the natives)...GREAT memories & nostalgia!!! Now, I something play it on win XP (in win 7 the colours are not so good and), and i don't only save humans ...:D

I'm very sad that lots of people don't know this fantastic game, especially in Italy (no italian pages about it on Internet).

Are there still people who play Virus 2000? i knew that there was a multiplayer site....can you give me some infos about it please? thank you!

My comment is probably not very pertinent for this discussion, but it's the only "place" i found to express my opinion about V2000, and my hope that one day Frontier will release a sequel ( Hope dies last ;))
