Valpsund Zoo - By SalamAnders

Work in Progress picture of a new small educational guest facility. Jurassic World Evolution 2 is making a cameo here.
In this building you can learn about the Ichthyosaur fossils found in northern Norway. We will dive more into this when it is finished.

I finished the house of the Ichthyosaur, with some educational signs, a projective video of an animated Ichthyosaur (JWE2 footage) and a blue-tongued skink to educate the guests about what a reptile is and how the extinct Ichthyosaur is related to modern lizards.

And the finished building from the outside:

If you got 3 minutes and want to dive a bit more into the process and ideas behind this, then you should watch this:

To be able to use at least one of the new species from the upcoming DLC at launch, I decided to add a little Asian area with some cold climate species to Valpsund Zoo.
These are the first steps. A small entrance to the area and a crane collage made of decals. The gate and the collage can be found in the workshop.

So Valpsund Zoo is literally being affected by Climate Changes after update 1.9. Which makes it a bit complicated to keep going as intended with this zoo.
For now, I will go on as planned and hope this issue will get fixed or at least addressed at some point, but it is not great for my motivation when I don't know if I have to do major changes to the park later on if it stays like this.

@markun made a great thread about the issue, where you can read more about it if you aren't sure what I'm talking about:

If you are also being affected by this after update 1.9, I think you should go and make a post about it in the thread, to give this as much attention as possible.
Hopefully Frontier will react.

Long time no see in here, but don't worry Valpsund Zoo is getting back on track. I just haven't been in the mood to play PZ the past month.

Today is just going to be another sneak peek of something WIP, I might as well wait to show the Asian area I have been working on till after the 21.

I don't often start to build for species before they are released, but I felt inspired so I better act on it. I had luckily saved a bit of space in the Asian area, because I had a feeling the Amur leopards would show up this year, and otherwise dholes or snow leopards could have been added here.

We got an enclosure for each gender, as well as two small separation sections in between them. One side is mostly done, just needs a roof and possibly some extra stuff when the new pack launches. The other side isn't done yet, and I won't do much detailing in the staff area before we got the new scenery.

From the front of the enclosure, the leopard can lay above the guests viewing area and look out on the rest of Asia. Hopefully, the hitboxes will allow this!

And to those of you who remember THE DRYLANDS (👈 link), I plan on blowing some dust off that project soon as well, since the scimitar-horned oryx has been one of my most wanted species for that park. If I don't change the plans along the way, we will probably be going a bit back and forth between those zoos from now on.

Where are you getting similar art styles for the animals? I have a hella time finding the same art style for all animals (well, at least for free and via the internet).

I also used to spend ages on Google searching for a similar art style. So when I started this zoo, I instead tried to look for it in my rather big collection of old zoology literature.
It still takes some time, but I find the process more fun and end up with signs which somehow feel more personal.
I even made a fun little video about how I did it if that is of interest:

One of the only exceptions is the red panda one. That image is actually from its in-game sign piece.

Ahh - now I just need a book collection like that! My partner has plenty of books with animals in them - but they're all from extinct eras! If I want sabertooths, I'm all set!

Just stopping by again with a quick overview of the Amur leopard facility, since I now got the left side as done as I want it before the new pack drops. They work as two separate habitats, with only one of them having access to one of the separation dens in the middle. The roof is still unfinished, so I can better make changes if needed.

Hope you like it.
