Newcomer / Intro Very Fustrated

After years of waiting for this game, ive now only been playing a few hours and im ready to throw my PC out the window.

Took some time getting to master flight control which is fine. Managed to save up 5000 credits in the 3 hours so decided to take on a mission with a bigger pay out. 12000 creds if i delivery 4 units of coffee. Sounds easy enough, there is coffee for sale 3 systems away. So i do the 3 jumps, dock up and but the coffee which costs me over 4000, leaving me with not much.

I then launch and try to exit the station, only to find some muppet has parked right in the entrance slot in badness and I have no way of exiting. (note im in solo play so there are idiot griefing NPC AIs??).

I try to ram him out of the way but bounce back in. I get a trespass warning and a fine! I then ram again and somehow just about make it out of the station. But now i have a bounty and the station is attacking me?? Needless to say I died very quickly.

Anyway, long story short, im back in the station still with the outstanding mission, but no coffee in my hold and no cash to buy any more. ive actually got less than i started with so basically 3 hours wasted.

raaaaar!

Welcome to Elite Dangerous. Try losing a month of work in a series of 3 snafu decisions. Despite all of this, I wouldn't change a thing about the game. Expect the unexpected.

use ur thrusters to get to the edge of the letter box you should have been able to squeeze past. NPC's have been known to loiter in the airlock but I thought they had fixed that as I havnt seen that in ages

yea sounds like a bug, npc lost path and got stuck?
but hopefully its a rare bug, i have not witness it yet.

npc's got a timer just like you they have to dock/undock before it runs out.
so if you had waited a few minutes the station would probably had opened fire on the npc doing the blocking and blown him out of the sky for loitering.

The game is brutal in the early going. Lots of rules with painful consequences. Use these forums to learn how to avoid many pitfalls:
- starport protocol; what will get you in trouble
- how to land/dock
- prohibited commodities per star system
- how to decide to accept/reject missions in BB

Give Open Play a shot. You will find AI is more ruthless than human players typically. Perhaps we can meet up in Elite and I can help you get settled. My name handle is Kane Vilorde or CMDR Kane Vilorde.

The larger ships are brutes. I can imagine a Lakon Type 9 (huge ass cargo ship) taking up the whole slot.

Edit: Sorry - this was for PierceBLK.

How did this ship take up the entire slot?

The NPC basically has their ship parked in the slot sideways, there was very little space to get passed.

I had been playing open mode, but i needed to dock at the station which is one of the open platforms. station kept refusing me docking access and i read online it might be because all pads are full, so i logged back in on solo mode so i could dock and complete mission before timer ran out!

Sounds like an Orca was in your way. Hit me up on Elite after 6:00PM [EST] today and I will show you around and get you started with trading.

The AI in and around stations is shocking tbh, they will get stuck constantly. It hasn't been improved since alpha. You need to be careful not to get rammed, especially when it's laggy.

They don't even spawn until a few seconds after a player arrives and opens the session/instance (you will notice stations always look empty in solo when you arrive). There is also still a bug where they hyperspace off the landing pads :\

the game is EXTREMELY hard at the beginning and all that and worse happened to me too. My advice, just have fun screwing off and learning the game and die often, then wipe urself with a clearsave and start over rerolling your acct. its what i did. i died 28 times before my reroll but not once since in 2 weeks with 50 killls.

You,ll find you can squeeze your ship through pretty small spaces, especially a sidewinder. The station entrance is also bigger than you'd think
