Victory Nameplates...

Didn't notice before you posted this but yes, the tally marks count 6 instead of 5 ..... facepalm indeed.

EDIT: just noticed newsletter 181 actually makes a reference to the tally marks being 6 not 5, so may be deliberate? Or the newsletter might be making light of the error.....

THe thing is, whether it's on purpose or just covered up, it's dumb. The whole point of a tally is to easily count the blocks by 5. Even my 4 year old can count by 5s. Counting by 6s is a bit more unnatural. That's why the tally developed the way it did, and why the Romans used a V as the next number in their system after I.

They could count in binary instead. Would easily fit on ships then. FYI: You can fairly easily count to 1023 on your fingers this way (assuming you have ten functional fingers); just watch out for the number 4 and a couple others in mixed company.

did somebody actually buy them and can say whether they are dynamic or not?

I did and after watching one for some time it appears to be totally static, at least I couldn't see any movement in it.

Also non of the variations matched my victories no matter what base I decided it was counting in.

Not enough room on my ship.

I know, I know, but my hope had been they could each represent a number of kills (blocks of twenty or 100, or perhaps each time you fill up the multiplier increases) or at the very least let you enter your own number where you could establish your own rules as to what they represent (PvP kills, for example)

It never really occurred to me that the count would be dynamic. That would be a bit too much programming to get it right for a cheapo nameplate, as well as has been mentioned...many many ships would be covered bow to stern with tally marks that would have to extend far outside the name plate box.

That said, we can pay for a static typo...Victory!

Yeah, but if we had it where we could enter our own kills/marks/values it wouldn't be too much programming (just another field not unlike the nature of the nameplate itself)

Maybe it'll be offered down the road ;)

If the nameplates only show PVP kills, they make much more sense.
I have 130 PvP kills, so depending where the nameplate is place and on what ship, it might fit.
Nitek with is 2k+ kills .. will need a different design.

Seeing as they are not dynamic (For obvious reasons) maybe they could make it so every time you log out it resets, that way I think it would solve both problems. Its not like someone kills 500 ships in one session.
