Accountants always end up running things in the end.
IMO in something that requires instinct and art in addition to the obvious talent and technical skills required, such as computer game development, the war for control will always end up being lost to the bean counters.

Watched your vid Yamiks and although I agree with you I sincerely hope this long "pause" of new content won't backfire on them by people leaving the game altogether because they're getting bored.
This is indeed a horrible way of promoting a game.
Imho Horizons was the only content update that held some real gameplay substance, if it's true that the next great thing coming late 2020 will add some actual new content then that's two major updates in five years time, not much to write home about imho.

It really doesnt look good...normally when games go into maintanance mode, they are nearing the end of their shelf life. As fer the timeline, try this...usually takes a year or two of boredom to encourage the hardcore to pack up and leave of their own free will which would lessen the impact of simply pulling the plug which would be disastrous fer public relations.
Purely speculation certainly...but still, makes sense to string everyone along and wait fer natural boredom to do what they cant or wont do now. Of course they will deny it right upto the plug pulling day...imagine what would happen if they admitted it now. This is merely the path of least resistance and two years down the line after they lose a big chunk of players, they then have the perfect excuse to ¨change the goalposts¨ as it were.

It really doesnt look or feel in any way encouraging but hey, not my problem...Im long past the grieving and denial stages which I went through last year...have since moved on and see this game as a cherished memory that could have been great but...ah well was fun while it lasted wasnt it?

Maybe I misunderstood the last part of your video but I don't think that FDEV is waiting for next gen console to extend VR. DB already reported in an interview that he believes VR is just a niche, so he doesn't seem so keen to invest more on VR, and we've seen this during the beta phase of 3.3 where FD didn't pay attention to a lot of VR issues that were pretty obvious.
I also see problems with the licence because PC players will be able to play the same game installing a DLC on top. Console players will need to buy a complete new licence because of the new console. It might be a commercial move but I think many people will judge FD very badly by forcing console players to buy a new console and a new licence to continue to play the game.

People have been predicting the end of Elite since before it went into alpha yet her it still is.
On topic: yay more amateur economists.
Game licenses for consoles are tired to your game account not the console, provided the next gen are compatible with Elite then no they wont need to buy a new licence.
As for all this talk of waiting until the next gen console is a motivation for a 2020 expansion release where does that come from exactly?
Have the dev kits for xbox/playstation even went out yet or is Frontier just gonna cut copy and paste all their work over when they do come out.
My gamedev mates at Playground Games (Forza Horizon) have received devkits for the next Xbox.

^^^ This. As I've said elsewhere, why would FD delay a paid expansion next-gen consoles which will be fewer in number compared to Xbox One and PS4?
Simple: FDev won't. Just "rumours" from frustrated PC owners and/or console fanboys. It's a fair bet that Elite Dangerous will be available for the next consoles nontheless, it'd be silly not to.

Yes the dev kits are out there, at least according to some surveys of studios. Surprisingly no leaks of what those kits contain have made it to the internet, at least those leaks haven't made it to my eyes yet. I expect once the alcohol get flowing at the game developer conference at the end of this month, we will get plenty of leaks about what lay in store for all three consoles.
Considering it my firm believe both of the new consoles will have backwards compatibility I don't believe Frontier is waiting for them.
I just honestly believe that the projects is legs and that it requires such a huge amount of work they need two years to complete it. Maybe I'm neive but I just don't believe in all these conspiracy theories.
Even it not legs, atmospheric planets which would include ELW would require a huge amount of work to implement.
I'm just hoping their a little bit more content in patches that Frontier will be releasing this year than they are letting on.

No, no they haven't. But it probably sounds good for you to make this up huh. Reality is that the game is in decline and has been for some time because that's normal. It's a four year old game.
I've been around since 2012. Yes, they have. There were people who were saying that 1.0 would flop and Frontier would move on to other games immediately. They were kind of right about 1.0 flopping, at least.
