[VIDEO] "Wide Frontier" - Elite: Dangerous in Super Widescreen 21:9

I have a Dell U2913WM at work (21:9, 29", 2560x1080) and I'm tempted to go 21:9 at home. But a 29" 21:9 has roughly the same screen height as a 24" 16:9 monitor. IOW, nice and wide, but a little short vertically.

I'm curious Granite, how far away are your from the monitor?

I used to have a 24" 16:9 so I am used to the height. I am about 18" away from the screen - so from this distance it is a good size. If it was further away I would want at least 34".

I was afraid of that. My HOTAS mount forces me to sit a little farther away than 18". It's a great format for video editing, but I never seriously considered 21:9 for gaming until now.

Video editing is a pleasure on 21:9, same deal for music editing.

21:9 is a huge step forward for just about every game I have tried so far...and a good many games out there support the aspect ratio. I don't think I would want to go back to a regular monitor now. :)

Would you be so kind as to take a picture of the monitor? It is quite difficult to judge the size from their website.

(Why cant manufacturers allow us to see the proper aspect and size of their monitors by putting a real object in the pictures)?

I hope we get a little more options on the field of view settings.

The warping ins't quite as bad on your resolution, but if you bump it up to 5760 x 1080 the majority of the picture on the side monitors are warped which makes it pretty useless for anything beyond peripheral vision.

The FOV slider doesn't really cut it. It makes such a minute change that it really only effects how much of the HUD is visible on one screen.

jea hope they'll change this warping effect. Still nice to have this peripheral vision.

Most games have it at 5760 x 1080, it's just not always quite so noticeable. I haven't tried it in a bigger cockpit yet like the OP, so it might improve, but in the Hauler it can be a little annoying seeing a planet turn into a distorted frisby as you fly past - it's especially noticeable on stars while in super cruise.

It is fantastic having so much of the game rap round though, even with the distortion, especially in space stations.

I was launching yesterday, and when I launch I usually zip up to around the height of the hatch and spin round to the right angle before moving forward - this time as I was preparing to spin, in my peripheral I noticed the frigging huge bulk of a Lakon-9 doing precisely the same thing to my left, giving me just enough time to move before it accidentally killed me.

Without the wider screen res I'd never have seen that ship.
