Elite / Frontier Viper Defense Craft - low poly model.

Hi all, i posted a pic of this in another thread a while ago, hope no one minds me starting off another thread to show off another model.

You can download the model for use in FFED3D from here.

A pirate themed skin pack is available here

currently 6,896 triangles but could stand to shed a few hundred more... trying to maintain a nice regular surface so it shades nicely in the rendering engine employed by FFED3D.

will move onto the textures next, and then you'll be able to fly it.:D Or, blow it to bits I guess, what ever tickles your fancy.

nice, i take it the little fella on the far side is to give a sense of scale

i never really realised from the game how big these are

excellent m8

not counting the landing gear or the fins, its 10 meters tall. i'm not sure it really fits the quoted mass figures.. i think it should weigh twice as much at this scale, but this is the size that fits the game... as an example, a fully loaded 747 weighs approximately 300 metric tons, and probably at a estimate, has a comparable internal volume. the viper weighs 65 metric tons by comparison but should probably be at least 200 tons.

I always figured there is something wonky about ship masses in Frontier. It's best seen when you land near a house. That's probably the first thing that really needs fixing in E4. Also, the extra capacity will help with broadened selection of weapons and increased number of hardpoints.

As for the model - very good job, though I would probably sacrifice a bit of the overall smoothness for some extra detail.
Also, air intakes look cool, but they somehow don't belong. ;)

Wouldn't it need the air intakes when it's in the atmosphere?

Also, maybe in the future, crafts are made of an as yet undiscovered ultra, ultra lightweight material and um....no, I'm going nowhere with this, the masses need fixing don't they!

jeeeeeze fella

when do you fit in time to have a beer!!!

thats 'da bomb' as my yung'un would say

brilliant m8, absolutlely fab !!

That looks unbelievably good. Cant believe you've managed to turn out that kind of quality so quickly.
