Viper IV - Opinions?

Flies like a brick without wings. Pointless.

Given your other recent post, and the fact you think it flies like a brick...I'd encourage you to retry the Viper 4 after you've learned how to fly the FDL without flight assist. The reasons that make the FDL great FAoff are very similar to why the Viper 4 is so good.

As with the other dudes; don't mistake your own handling of the ship as indicative of it's actual capabilities ;)

I think you're a skilled pilot that just loves the Viper. Or at least you love to boast about your skill while insulting others, but I digress. (saying people are "butthurt" really man? This ain't 4-Chan)

Why didn't you simply challenge his facts - and they were facts - with those of your own? He spoke the truth, he gave the facts, and you're trying to shirk away with this silly "well uhh, that's HIS truth not the facts". Who are you, Joe Biden?

We get it, you love the Viper 4! That's great, I'm not about trying to convince you that you can't love what you love. But I hated the Viper, and that's my "truth", so if we can't go by hardcore on-paper facts and stats, why are YOU so right and I and others so wrong? I mean....if there's no objective way we can judge ships, who are YOU and others to tell me I'm not right??

Have you read my replies to the posts?

I have never claimed in any post that I'm a great or even good pilot. I have repeated challenged his 'facts' with actual experience of how the V4 performs. He quoted numbers which as I have said plainly are correct yet don't explain how things actually perform. Take the V3 vs the Imp Eagle for example. Both have the same highest speed in the game yet the viper will simply leave the Imp Eagle behind in a straight up drag race (or any race tbh( as numbers quoted alone do NOT show actual performance, that takes into account thruster response, boost modifiers, boost profile etc. I'm happy to be proven wrong about these things but if you are going to argue your numbers mean something then you'd better do some research and be able to back them up with actual performance. Or yes I'll call you on it.

If you don't like the viper that's entirely fine. It's not a 'truth' it's your opinion. While I do prefer the Viper 4 over the Vulture I still love the vulture and regularly fly it. But claiming that it flies 'better' because some stats are higher is just plain incorrect.

Have a look at sanderlings videos. He is one of the best pilots in the game and simply outflies many others. He is a good way to judge a ships capabilities. Out side of betting into an epeen comparing contest which is just plain silly. Simple stats have never been a good way to judge performance in ED as there are so many other variable that don't get shown in the stat pages.
My advice to anyone who thinks a ship is bad from 'early experience' is to go back, give it some love and ask people who DO love the particular ship (any ship) and see how it flys practically and give it a shot, not come on a bang on about how bad it is when all they look at is a single/couple of stat numbers...

I've had a hulltanked Viper IV using medium incendiary MCs and small rails for a while now and it works very well. Running it as a hulltank and using the incendiary MCs for thermal damage instead of lasers help me deal with the awkwardly-small power distributor, and even weighed down with all that armour I get 512m/s out of it. The power plant has a ton of leftover juice when you aren't powering a shield, so you can get luxury items like an A-rated KWS. I find the ammo runs out long before the ship runs out of hull.

I really respect a passionate debater, I'm the same way. To me it just sounds like you are saying you love the ship, and no amount of math or stats will convince you otherwise. And dude, that's perfectly cool.

I gave a harsh opinion on the Viper based on MY experiences and got some aggro here. Fine, all good.

So nobody is right and nobody is wrong and only our subjective feelings matter I guess. And that's fine but why try convincing people this thing holds a candle to any combat-capable medium ship - much less the Vulture - is beyond me.

Because it does, it's as simple as that. If your or others can't get the capability out of the ship that isn't an issue with the ship.

As state above many pilots can happily get good combat capability out of it. Easily on par with the Vulture, small v mediums are a different argument. But even then the V4 can hold it's own.
