Vive delayed until April 2016

Not surprised in the least, it was getting very late in the day for their "pre xmas launch". I too think they've maybe been a bit surprised by the Oculus CV1 and decided to refine, as well as get more content of course.

Looks like a good xmas for Samsung/Oculus as the only commercial product out there. I bought my mum a Galaxy S6 for xmas and figured it would be rude not to get the Gear VR too.

I'm a bit more optimistic that Oculus will hit their release date. Their product isn't as ambitious as HTC's, and their development kits have been out there in the wild for a long time now.

This news doesn't really affect me. I was always going to wait until both headsets were available before I made my choice. Not that I was going to wait too long. With VR there's always going to be something new around the corner. I wonder if HTC have improved on the look of their controllers.

It will be interesting to see if this announcement makes Oculus change their launch strategy i.e. delay by 1-2 months to improve their product, allow more content to be created etc. but still launch before the Vive so they can be first to market.

I normally ignore conspiracy theories and rumours but this one seems spot on.

i am not expecting the rift cv1 to come out in Jan, if it was they would be taking orders now, as well as telling us the price and showing us the full package etc.

however imo there is a good chance it will hit the Q1 time frame. iirc the 1st mass produced unit rolled off the belts a few months ago, so right now they are just building up stock.

Oculus cant really refine the hardware more at this point, since its been in production phase for months. They are already putting all the hardware effort into CV2 at this point.
What can delay it is if they want to to wait in more content, but on the other hand they have already delayed it alot, so Im not sure how the devs will react to another huge delay.
I think it will launch pretty solid in the Q1 window, just as they planned. They get a month or two alone on the consumer hype train, but already plan the release of CV2 within a year.
They are in for the long game. Thats my guess.

on titles for the vive right now. So the desicion to release another 7k developer headsets and give them 5 more months is really smart of them.

It also fits really goods with the timing of the next gen GPUs coming out in Q2-Q3 next year.

this really suck, i sold my dk2 about 3 months and now have to wait another 4 months. i won`t make it, i`m hunting kijiji to rebuy a dk2.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
