Sounds like most folks see this problem. Any solutions? I read about some players hitting 90fps, so there must be some workaround for this timing issue.

I'm not seeing this at all. It's as smooth as glass when playing. My settings here:

Seems it may be limited to folks launching the non-steam version with a steam shortcut. Steam seems to think it's a desktop title, and starts up the Desktop Game Theater in the background.

Nope, I always run ED directly from the windows desktop, with the ED launcher. Can't say for certain that I don't have steam running in the background, but I never use steam to launch the game (but get only 45 Hz refresh)

Same. I don't even have Elite on steam. VR High - Low, Supersampling set from 0.5-1.5; everything gives 45 fps. Turning allow reprojection on, helps a lot visually. I'd rather have true 90 fps though.
