Vive or Rift?

But with these extra layers of super sampling, what hit does the FPS take?

Do you need to lower the detail level to compensate?

You're asking Rift or Vive? On Vive game is pretty much playable on a 1070 as written before. As for Rift the software analyses performance dynamically and adjusts it accordingly (added info from reddit thread on the subject to previous post).

I kinda feel like this..

If you want the best Elite:Dangerous experience, get the Oculus Rift. It wins hands down.

If you want the best "Overall" experience, and an acceptable Elite:Dangerous experience, get the Vive.

I mean.....once you get the settings right its definitely ok in the vive. I followed instructions here and tinkered on my own and i got it looking "close" to the rift. But there are definite differences.

Some of those differences are in favor of the vive. Like better colors and a noticable field of view advantage. During fast motion (when you arent focusing on details) i would say the vive actually comes out on top because of those 2 factors. But when you stop and look around......it just doesnt look as good as the rift. Period.

Explain? (and I'm an Oculus fan here so it would be easy for me to just agree but from what I hear generally the Vive is pretty much just as good for ED).

You have been advised wrong. I own both and can say with all certainty that Elite works waaaay better in the Oculus that it does with the Vive. Pity really as happen to think the Vive is the better HMD. Certainly more comfortable to wear for long periods.
