Vive Pre - I've got to be doing something wrong. Anyone else?

Dear Vive image quality sufferer; feel free to ship me your Vive kit and I will carry out a comparative analysis on my machine here at home and get back to you Soon[tm], OK?

Thanks.

This Vive user apparently improved matters by wiping out all game settings and reconfiguring from scratch: https://www.reddit.com/r/Vive/comme..._get_elite_dangerous_working_with_the/d1x2kvt
that's not a fix; we can't fix the issues. FDev has to fix it. He did what everyone else is doing: High VR settings + 1.5x Supersampling.

He didn't have to reset it settings to do that. Resolution on the Vive isn't tied to the default resolution settings. It's separate somehow and being calculated somewhere hidden. The only way to presently influence it is with Supersampling. Nothing else really makes a meaningful difference.

This is what it looks like through Vive CV1 on VR High, Max HMD Quality, no AA, Supersampling 1.0x settings:

I haven't tried the game with DK2, so let me know if this is how the game is supposed to look like on HMDs.

I have exact same issue. Resolution seems to be 20-30% lower than it should be on Vive. I have 23 games in steam vr and this one looks the worst no matter what I change in settings it nearly have no effect on the game rander in HMD. Everything outside a cockpit looks like pixelated mess without any AA.

I'm having the same problem with Vive CV1. My specs are GTX 980 Ti (364.72), i7-2600K, Win 10. Preview window has the same problem. The game looks like it is running at lower resolution than the native resolution of the Vive. Supersampling 2x helps but kills the framerate. ED is only utilizing ~50% of 980 Ti.

I think there is something very bugged with supersampling in Elite. Even on my DK1, on lowest possible gfx settings, I get awful framerates when enabling the lowest 1.5x setting. Without using supersampling I can run with 'VR high' settings + enabling shadows high + SMAA + best texture settings and framerate is still good. I find it strange that adding 50% more resolution while reducing gfx to a minimum should destroy my framerate. Especially considering the DK1's abyssmal 640x400 resolution per eye..

Yep, the game isn't ready for the Vive for some reason. Until FDev addresses it we won't have nearly as good an experience as we should be getting.

Very disappointed.

I Hope they have this fixed soon my Vive is going to be here really soon and ED is the main reason I'm buying my Vive. It seams a shame that we are not getting the true VR experience at launch.

Is there any official acknowledgement of this issue or a announced fix?

Got my Vive yesterday.Same story as the rest in ED,Jaggies ,alias shimmer ,lower frame rate ,dark image and a bit blurry. 980ti ,X99 Deluxe ,16GB ram ,i7 5930.
Gonna play around with the settings tonight to see if i can make a difference. I've played a few demos and they had very clear and smooth images.
My DK2 in ED is silky smooth.

Hey guys, did you try to put the game on pc in windowed mode at lower resolution?

Like this : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiKyfMBhVDo

Seems to affect a lot unity games performance so why not here with cobra? Give it a try.

I don't use steam for ED. I use the dedicated launcher (and a Vive) and can confirm that outside the cockpit appears to rendered at too low a resolution causing ugly aliasing on everything.

Same problem for me with the Vive. I get it when launching it from SteamVR but also straight from the Elite launcher.

The cockpit looks phenomenal but everything outside is horrible. I got nearly got sick entering Cleve Hub, all the lights were juggling and everything was a blurry pixelated mess.

Frontier please fix this, the game is absolutely insane in VR. INSANE.

I deleted ED from Steam and deleted the Elite Dangerous folder from steamapps folder and then reinstalled it.It runs and looks alot better now.About 85% better.Still a slight frame rate issue and shimmering but tolerable.
New problem now though after 5-10 mins of play i lose picture(turns grey)on hmd and tracking with any game.[cry]

Here too,

Cockpit looks awesome good - but everything outside is a flickering mess... Even on DK2 it wasn't like that.

Reinstall with deleting all folders (also within %appdata%) didn't fix it
