Voice Attack - Getting Voice attack to plot a course

The way the OP describes howto make this macros is far too complicated. As I am at work till tomorrow, I can't give you an example how I did atm. But I will do, when I am at home again. You don't need the use of the mouse, still bind keyboard strokes to navigate through the UI and use them in VA. You can pretty fast go through all the UI elements by using keystrokes. I just made ONE macro and it's not that long, not necessary to set up three of them. Despite that, when I found a new route, I just duplicate one of my other macros and replace the starsystem name. Easy and short...
Agreed there is more than one way to skin a cat, in fact the OP's method i'm not sure would work so well for me as i use head tracking so mouse clicks don't generally work for me, as i turn my head the X-Y pos changes, although this is a non issue for the galaxy map as head tracking is static in that interface.

Exactly, if I was new to VA the op's post would put me of purchasing it. It is incredibly simple in VA to create macros or plot a course in the galaxy map, I even programmed a helmsman for my anaconda in under 10 minutes, full control of the ship.

Setup one base macro, duplicate and modify it. Job done, nearly a hundred routes done, each new route I add takes a few seconds. Creating one from scratch is less than a minute

All very nice saying It's simple to do, without putting in exact steps needed to do it. as the OP has done

Props to the OP for actually outlining the step by step instructions to do what a lot of people might be unaware is possible.

Where are your steps? could you post them here?

I would think that your step by step guide would look equally dumbfounding to someone who has never used Voice attack Before.

EVERYTHING IS EASY WHEN YOU KNOW HOW TO DO IT!!!!!

As I said above, I'm at work atm and will reply to this thread tomorrow evening. So be patient... (and don't shout at me, dude, keep calm, help is coming)

the moment VA can select something from the navigation tab (not the galaxy map) is the moment I'll buy it.
Only way to do it for now, and i think ever is to have commands mapped for up and down.

I have up up2 up3 up4 up5 up6 and the same for down, not ideal but it does work.

Quite a bit of stuff i used to use voice attack for is now defunct since i got head tracking, its just quicker to use the keyboard now.

I still have a lot of stuff on voice though, Deploy hardpoints, cargo scoop landing gear (which also turns my lights on and off).

Also have a run away command that puts 3 pips to engines 1 to shield boosts, turns fa off retracts hardpoints and initiates my FSD.

Very handy in those tight hard to get out of situations.

I also have yes no confirmations for things like jettison cargo. :)

Wasn't having a go at you, you'll see i agreed with what you were saying, Mouse clicks probably isn't the most efficient way to do things, and you didnt just say its easy and leave it at that, you said would post something when you are able to, all good no complaints from me :)

My other comments were for 777Driver, who simply comes out with yes thats easy to do with no method, and not even offering to post at a later time when he's able.

Well what is the point typeing out instructions when you can just share the profile? Here's mine, 3000 commands, 90 or so are common systems for the gal map. All you have to do is say SOL, or Lave, Leesti.. it will type the system name, lock the destination and give you info about the system. It also has most of the rare goods systems. You can also say the destination station name for many systems and it will still plot a course.

If I want my main anarchy hub I simply say 'Anarchy system' If I want a course to my homebase TZ Ariretis, I say 'Homebase' plotting a course to Betelgeuse.. Guess what? I just say Betelgeuse.

To create your own, just simply look for one of the commands (SOL for example) right click and duplicate & modify that command and type the new system you want added, takes a few seconds. I use the DK2 and HOTAS so avoid touching the keyboard.

If you want to delete any text in the Nav display, simply say 'Delete txt'

Anyway, with 3000 commands it's way too much to get into, and the profile was built for my setup. for many functions you would need to modify the key bindings. My bindings are not default.

If you can pretty much think of any Macro or ship function it's likely already in this profile. I can even fully control my Anaconda's thruster's down to the millisecond with this profile.

Because if you think somebody who's new to voice attack would probably be put off by looking at the instructions the OP Made.
What makes you think that a profile of 3000 commands is going to suddenly make them think oh cool i understand how to create commands in voice attack now.

Also your keybindings in your profile need to match the keybindings of the person importing your profile.
I See you dont have them mapped to basic keybind commands and then call those commands from within your other commands.
which basically means someone new would have to go through all your commands and edit them to match their keybindings.
Quite easy if you have a lot of experience in VA, which someone new would not have.

As i said everything is easy if you know how, the OP was just showing the how.

Nice profile btw.

Hi, I promised that I would write a guide to demonstrate how to get voice attack to set course for you.
However my computer was destroyed by a bad windows update and I had to reinstall everything again.
So here it is, if a bit late.

What I want to do.

tell voice attack "Set course for Sol", "Set course for Lugh" etc.

I'm presuming that you are at least using voice attack for basic commands.
At the begining I will explain everything. at the end it is abbreviated.
ie. Click Pause, Change the time to 000.170s and click ok becomes Pause 0.17s

Step 1. Creating the open map macro

  1. click edit profile in voice attack
  2. create a new command
  3. change the name of the command to ((map step 1))
  4. uncheck "When I say" (so the command is disabled)
  5. Click "Key Press" and press your map key (mine is set to / )
  6. Click Ok
  7. Click Pause
  8. you need a 3 second pause for the map to open, so enter 003.00 and click ok
  9. Alt tab to the game and press the map key that you entered.
  10. Comback to voice attack and press "Mouse"
  11. click "Set Position"
  12. Alt tab to the game and hover the mouse over "Navigation" tab.
  13. Press ALT+F3 to save the mouse location
  14. Back to voice attack, you should see the mouse co-ords set. Click Ok, and Ok.
  15. add a pause for 0.17 seconds
  16. add Mouse -> "Click Left Button" -> Ok (hint: Half way down the mouse dialog)
  17. pause 0.17s
  18. Mouse -> Set Position
  19. in game, click the Navigation name box and press Alt F3 , return to Voice attack and ok, ok
  20. pause 0.17s
  21. Mouse -> Click Left Button

Step 2. Create the close map macro
  1. create a new command called ((map step 2)) the same way as before
  2. in game type SOL in the navigation search box
  3. go back to voice attack
  4. Key Press RETURN
  5. Pause 1.5s (allow the map to scroll)
  6. Add Mouse - (set position to the center of the navigation route icon)
  7. pause 0.17s
  8. Add Mouse -> Left Click -> Ok
  9. Pause 0.17s
  10. Key press (Map Key)
  11. close the macro

Step 3. Adding a destination setting course for sol
  1. Create a new command called "Set Course For Sol" (leave this one active)
  2. Click OTHER
  3. in the top combo box select "Execute another command"
  4. select ((map step 1)) and Ok
  5. Now we type out the system name using a pause between presses
  6. Key Press -> S
  7. Pause 0.17
  8. Key Press -> O
  9. Pause 0.17
  10. Key Press -> L
  11. Pause 0.17
  12. Other Command -> ((Map Step 2)) ok and done.

Step 4. Trying it out and Debugging the bad placement of windows and pauses
  • Go back to elite and close the map
  • Say to voice attack "Set course for Sol" and watch closely for what is wrong
  • The S isn't being recognised so edit ((map step 1))
  • Add a pause to the end of the macro for 0.5s and close and done
  • back in game, try it out.
  • the scrolling fo the map takes too long so we need to add a bigger pause
  • Edit ((map step 2))
  • Highlight the first pause and edit it for 3 seconds.
  • Close everything back down to the main VA screen and try it in game again
  • Everything should work, however sometimes the dialog is above or below the initial place
  • in game open the map and select a nearby star that is slightly above your current position
  • Select this nearby star and go back to VA
  • Edit ((map step 2)) again
  • Select the last pause in the macro
  • Add Mouse command set possition
  • set this with F3 to the center search arrow at the side of the navigation bar
  • Pause 0.17s
  • Mouse -> Left Click
  • Pause 0.5s
  • Mouse -> Set Position -> in the center of the set route navigation button.
  • Pause 0.17s
  • Mouse -> Left Click

You may have to change the positions of the first and second click of the route icon for systems that are slightly above / below you.

All you have to do now is repeat step 3 with your system names in the macro.

Hope this helps someone.

Superb! Easy to follow steps:)

Remember to input the route into your Astro Nav computer!

Either at the end of step 3 or at the start of step 2 add:-

Move mouse cursor to Nav icon
Pause 1
Click left mouse button
Pause 1
Move mouse cursor to route icon on Nav map
Pause 1
Click left mouse button.

That will input the destination into your Nav computer ( left panel) and your go for warp!

Great post and used my favourite add on.

Here's how I do it in the rift. FPS is bad because of the recording software. Not demonstrated in the vid, To plot a course in the nav panel I don't even have to look at it, same deal with docking requests

I am absolutely stunned of the TTS-voice engine you are using. Can you tell me the name and address of her?

I would like to get her, maybe in a german version, onto my comp as well...

Ships library and general stuff is 'IVONA AMY' The main computer voice for the bulk of my commands is A.S.T.R.A

http://www.ivona.com/en/for-individuals/voices-for-windows/

http://www.elitedangerousvoicepack.com/

I have Ivona on my android tablet... But in your video, it blasts...
...looking after her in your link...

Edith:
Humm, Marlene is not bad, but as same as in my android tablet, she isn't as mindblowing as "Salli". Salli speaks smooth and really good in my german ears :p I would like to modify the TTS-voices with a bit reverb effect on the fly, but it seems that no buyable TTS-voice is capable of it...

Voiceattack for me was more of a novelty thing coming into the game, used it for about a week before getting annoyed at the program picking up sounds and executing commands I don't want it to, or not executing commands when I clearly ask for them... especially annoying when you want power to weapons and shields etc.

I just run the game in borderless mode, have a 32" TV mounted on the wall above my monitor, I use elitetradingtool.co.uk and also have my own .txt file for rare trade runs. I simply copy and paste from them into the games galaxy map to plot a route. I use an xbox one pc wired controller, got a key binding for everything and it works awesome.

I only ever touch the keyboard to open the galaxy map, and I use my mouse when at a station. I can use my xbox pad but mouse in station / galaxy map is just dandy. Each to their own, sometimes you don't need over the top things... simplicity is reliability.

I used Anubis with Voiceattack, it was fun... then it got annoying. I'm only posting this here as I know people might be looking to buy voiceattack, and for many... at least the people I've spoken to, have agreed it's more of a novelty based program with the "computer voice" which you can interact with.

Just my opinion.

All it takes is 5 minutes of reading the manual to solve your issues. I definitely wouldn't call it a novelty, the tool is incredibly powerful once you get used to. I can instantly order multiple complex macros. It gives me a clear advantage. Besides, for me at least it adds some depth to a ships computer, once the profile becomes more complex, the AI takes on a life of it's own.

Would love you to share a couple of those route plotting macros with me, so i can create my own. I figured out auto copy/paste messages in VA, but haven't figured out an easy route plotting system yet.

I posted my full profile a few posts up. My route macros are activated by saying either 'Outbound route' 'Inbound route' or 'Alternate route'.

Alternate route is for a third system when flying a 3 route trade run.

Once you move to a new trade route you obviously have to re-enter the new data. As far as system's go, just say the systems 'SOL' 'Lessti' etc, Am pretty sure most of the popular rare routes are included too.

I need to clean up the profile, it was designed purely for myself

Just looking at your Outbound route command it appears you just have VA type in the system you want to select, by pressing the individual letters with pauses in between.
So using that method you still have to open galaxy map and click in the navigation box first , then speak the command to have VA enter it and press enter to select, correct
Seems a quicker way would be to have VA paste in the system name for you, (less key presses in VA).
Try using this method.:
Download NIRCMD http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/nircmd.html (freeware)

Then in VA use "run an application" Nircmd.exe (where ever you have the file stored)
In the parameters box type, nircmd.exe clipboard readfile "c:\My Files\info1.txt"
Where info1.txt would be a simple txt file with the name of the rquired system typed in.

nircmd.exe will copy that txt file to the clipboard.

Then in VA add ctrl + V
then press enter.

Call the command the name of system or whatever you wish.

So then by going into galaxy map, clicking on the navigation box and saying "SOL" it would be auto entered and selected.

Only 3 lines in the macro. (maybe a pause or two if needed). And still only 3 lines no matter how long the system name.

Better than 12 or something lines to spell it out. You could then store lots of system name text files in a folder to use at anytime.Just duplicate the command and change the "say name" and txt file.

I also use this for messages. See my thread explaining it all here.

What i am looking for, is a way to go into the map from the cockpit and select the navigation box using VA, then use the copy/paste macro, but key presses are not available for it in the map.

In my macro, I say for example "Lave" and the macro opens the map, switches to the navigation tab and selects the input field. Then it types the chars "LAVE", press Enter, waits a sec., goes to the Route-select-thingy, presses space and shuts the map. All with one spoken command.

Exactly this.
