I use "Plot Route" which is nice for auto loading Galaxy Map and directing straight to the input field for typing in where to go next. As followup, would like to try to expand on dictation to say something like: Plot Route to.... VA asks "Where?" I give answer, and the plot is automatically set. Ocellus VA plugin does exactly this but is kind of buggy (though works sometimes!) and the dev is no longer active. Thus, would be interested in flushing this out to refine/fix in the future.

You might want to take a look at what's offered here http://www.hcsvoicepacks.com

These can really add to the immersion, and come with voice attack profiles already set up.

I've been using the Astra pack for quite some time and can vouch for the quality and support from these folks.

Yep, good value for the work put into them and then you can make them your own.
I use a modified version of Astra (with IVona Amy voice synth). She has such a sexy voice. I use the IVona mini-reader to have her read to me on long trips or to do things like read back large web pages or edit an email'

There was a program in the "way back times" called Game Commander that was like Voice Attack, but not nearly as robust and very expensive for the time. VA is the bargain of the century. What could be more natural and immersive in a space game than voice commanding your spaceship?

So many commands listed already and I use most of them.
"Rift" to reset the view is one of the most crucial!

- One very often used is missing, though: "continue fligth" (or something alike; I use German commands), which will reload the preset galactic course after scanning celestial bodies
- energy management is another often used comand set. However, the most useful commands are not the basic "pip to SYS/ENG/WEP" (which of course exist) but more complex settings like "combat" (2.5 SYS, 1 ENG, 2.5 WEP), "attack" (2 SYS, 0 ENG, 4 WEP) or "chase" (0 SYS, 3 ENG, 3 WEP)

Another recommendation: add a TTS confirmation to the most critical commands. As awesome as VoiceAttack is, it has to rely on your computer's speach recognition, which is sometimes not very reliable. Especially in a combat situation, you don't want to have to look to your pips in order to confirm, whether or not your command was understood correctly.

I use vaga the ease of use with the rift is invaluable but for some strange reason when I ask for docking permission in the last month vaga decides he doesn't want to dock instead engages the warp engines and tries to escape I think vaga is a empire supporter on the quiet lol

Thanks Wolfox, what do these two do for you? They sound interesting.
rabbit mode
chase mode

Hi WindWpn, I like Plot route as a command to open the Galaxy Map. It would be good to be able to dictate the system name, too. I'd love more info on that type of thing, if you have it.

G'day dogbite. Exactly, especially if/when multicrew and NPC crew come into it. I want to stand on the deck and just give orders, sometimes :) I don't know about the mini-reader, is that another plug-in or just a function of the software?

Hi Deggial, that's a good idea for me, that's something I've wanted to address. My targeting and power management are done with the two Coolie hats on the stick, but I'm often messing up my targeting, so having an over ride voice command to get me back on track sounds neat!

Many that have been listed previously - 'request docking' is a much used one, so is 'target', 'highest threat' and 'next hostile'. Also:

Launch (Launches ship from dock)
Navigation (Left panel)
FTL (or Engage Drive) for FTL drive
Exit (Esc key - very useful for exiting menus) also Heads-up or HUD to recenter your vision to front
Next/Previous (next/previous panel, tab etc)
Engage Supercruise
Shield cell / Heat Sink (have them set separately so i can drop a Cell / heat sink / cell to get 2 cells from one heat sink, if done correctly)
Chaff
Weapons (deploy weaps)
Silent running on/off
Next/previous subsystem
100 / 75 / 50 percent (set % engine power - very handy for planetary landings)
Combat/Exploration/Cruising music (randomly plays one of those three categories of music on that folder)
Kill music (stops any playing music)
Take a photo
Galaxy/System map
Also wingman commands are useful (deploy beacon, wingmans target etc)

VA is awesome. I use Astra. :)

I still haven't bothered with voice attack. My CH HOTAS still has many, many unused button combos... once you use CH's scripting language to give you a control and an alt button, along with your shift button. I still haven't even needed my alt button, so I'm using it as my manual "flight assist off" button. Not to mention that Elite:Dangerous allows for button combos as well. ;)

If I did use it, I'd use it for communications, because my comms hat is getting pretty full. :)

"Send to Target"
"Send to Local"
"Send to Wing"
"Reply"
"Greetings"
"Farewell"
"Affirmative"
"Negative"
"Cooperate with Pirate"
"Defy Pirate"

I don't rely on VA for anything combat related - assuming I have the buttons available. It is so fast to push a button compared to speaking a command. I can even adjust pips to anything I want in about 1/4 second. And all you need is for VA to choose to not understand you that one time when you said Shield Cell and then have your shields go down while repeating the command. Although I do have several commands doubled up on VA and buttons, I usually just rely on the buttons. If I didn't have the HOTAS, then it would be a different story.

I mostly use VA for opening and closing UI panels, and things like the gear, scoop, and lights - things that you can use at your leisure. I've been meaning to expand into some canned responses for VR, but I almost never see any commanders anymore so have never taken the time. Maybe after moving out to Colonia next month it will be actually be more crowded and I can look into it again, although I can touch type a bit as long as I don't need to type numbers or symbols.

The mini-reader comes with the IVona voice synthesizer. All you have to do is highlight the text you want to read back and click play. Very handy when reading web pages, etc. I use Amy voice as she sounds a lot like Astra and so has some continuity is how the ship sounds when responding. IVona voices are pricey, but they are truly exceptional. I think Amy is their best voice (most natural sounding). IVona voices can be sampled on their website.

As promised a quick snapshot of the numpad/calculator. The only modifications I carried out was to open up the case and with a pair of nail clippers snip off every little silicon nipple (this that makes the contact to the pcb) on the left hand side of each button and put it back together again then join the two buttons together to make one single button.
Easily mashable even with the largest of sausage fingers.

I use all of the mentioned voice commands. Couple of things....

When using "request docking", make sure you are on the Nav panel on the left screen. A couple of times I've requested
Docking and my FSD drive has kicked in....not what you want in front of a space station!

I also use "contacts" to get a quick look of who's around. It also works for all the other panel functions too.

I would love to be able to use voice to sub-target enemy modules but haven't figured that out yet.

Thanks everyone who has added. It's given me a few shortcuts that will be excellent in making the game play a little smother, and with a little bit more interaction with the ship. Docking, weapons and targeting and a few things I'm doubling up - that is I've still got my controller buttons setup but I can voice the commands too. Like many of you I have a full controller setup so it's not so much necessity, as novelty. But there's also a lot of function in that, too. The comms panel is a big one for me, and I'm going to work on VA on my days off and try script a few basic messages I can send to other CMDR, while in VR.

Oh nice work, man. That's basically how my desk looks with the Notromo KB off to the left of the throttle. I'm thinking about ordering a couple of the keypads like you have, pull them apart and build the buttons into a bit of a dashboard/instrument panel :)

I had noticed that, too, that sometimes when I asked for docking, something else happened. I think I had a panel open, so I'll keep an eye on that. Contacts is a good one, so does that just open the comms panel or does it open the panel and go to the list of CMDRs in the area?

Yeah, targeting sub systems would be fantastic

This is what I need to do, also. The voice comms commands, when you say "Send to..." I take it that the system does what you're asking, but how does it direct it to the right communications line? What's the string of commands that "Sent to..." does?

I've got an issue with voice attack: It works fine, Astra responds, keypresses (and keybinds) work (tested via Word) but i have no reaction in game. It once worked fine, but now it drives me crazy!

Any suggestions?

Have you set the active window in VA?
The dropdown menu on the right, you have to tell VA which application to send the commands to. I can't remember what the actual one you select is, it's something like "Elite Dangerous something something (CLIENT)," and if you don't see it on the dropdown list you must hit refresh :) Make sure the ED Launcher isn't selected, instead

Make sure the HCS Binding pack is in your Win64-ControlSchemes folder and selectable in game. I have a different problem Astra seems to have gone senile and keeps playing with my sensor settings, opening and closing comms all the time, other just off the wall commands. I cannot figure what is causing this as no background noise or anything so somehow she thinks she is hearing a command. I might blow the whole thing up and reinstall it this started happening after I installed the new BETA version of voice attack they had on their website v. 1.6.1

Mp4x,

Since I don't have Voice Attack, I can't tell you how a "send to..." macro would work in it. This is how my Comm hat works, and I assume it could work like this in Voice attack as well:

I have the "open com's panel" in Elite: Dangerous set to the "c" key. So the unmodified Comm hat (ex: comm back) first opens the comm panel and the channel by sending "c/r" (aka "send reply") without hitting enter. I then hit the Comm hat with a modifier (ex: comm down + shift) sends my "Negative" macro, which ends with an enter press, thus sending the message.

I see no reason why Voice Attack can't set up something similar, with "Send to..." commands being one set of macros, and actual messages being a second set of macros.

Thanks, gotcha. Yes I think with some tinkering, VA will be able to do what you've said. You can add [macro] commands with timed pauses between what it sends to the game. I can also load up my Nostromo with macros, so possibly a combination of the two.
