Voice attack with no headset?

Can an external mic. be used instead of a headset or will the sound from speakers cause interference with mic?

Should be fine as long as you arn't going crazy with the volume from your speakers. It is reliably picking my voice up even whilst listening to music.

Kinda, Depends on the mic I guess.

When I don't have the headphones my webcam mic works but sometimes I have to raise my voice and go "DEPLOY WEAPONS AAAARG!"

Ok thanks for reply, but need this because I want to hear when my child upstears wakes up for some reason. Maybe with a bluetooth earplug?

It depends if it's voice partially, but really sound is measured in specific wavelengths, it tries to match the pattern to specific general wave lengths, if matches, execute command.

The louder the audio is, the more it's going to distort that wave length and make it not match. So depending on volume settings, or how loud you are personally is going to decide if it's viable for you or not.
I definitely recommend head phones for a more immersive experience.

It will work, but as others said - it will depend on your external microphone quality and speaker volume + background noise level.

great idea :) By the way, is it wirless ? Thanks

Nope, usb. A really cheap thing with a stalk about 15cm. Just sits in the collar of my shirt with the mic stalk bent so that the mic itself is right in front of my mouth. No problems to date with background noise having any effect on it. Oh and yes, DO the voice training.

its Swedish. So around 20 pounds. Still double yours :)

when on the topic, is it possible to bind commands to "target engines" would be great to target subsystems.

Just make sure you trust the people who may wander through your gaming area. I wouldn't put it past my wife to walk in while I was playing and say a ship command loudly to see what happens. Mischief managed.

I've got one of these and it works great, sits on my desk about 50cm away though comes with an adheisive pad so I could stuck it out the way under the desk. Cost about £10
It's a boundary mic

I solved the same issue by using a mono-aural (one-eared) 3.5mm jack headset. I have my centre channel go to my ear, so my team speak doesn't disturb my family. I have the other sounds come through the 5.1 speakers. Also means, I can still hear when the baby wakes up, and use a mic, and a trackIR.
