Voice attack with no headset?

Can an external mic. be used instead of a headset or will the sound from speakers cause interference with mic?

Yes you can but i would avoid it!! good friend has voice attack and i am thinking of getting it!! No Headset and webcam mic.. When he told his son he would come play lego in a while is son started making voice attack commands he had herd his dad say!!!

For some reason TobyTike was not happy when hi galaxy map poped up while he was in combat!!

I solved the same issue by using a mono-aural (one-eared) 3.5mm jack headset. I have my centre channel go to my ear, so my team speak doesn't disturb my family. I have the other sounds come through the 5.1 speakers. Also means, I can still hear when the baby wakes up, and use a mic, and a trackIR.

That's actually pretty clever, well done!

Ok thanks for reply, but need this because I want to hear when my child upstears wakes up for some reason. Maybe with a bluetooth earplug?

So I recommend getting a baby monitor with a 3.5mm headphone jack. You hook in a 3.5MM male to male connection and put it into the line in on your PC. Put on head phones, adjust line in volume to not make you deaf if you like your game loud, and done. You can enjoy the quiet peaceful bliss of headphone gaming at whatever volume you like, while using voice attack, and have your kiddo come right in on your headsets to make sure you can attend to them.

My four-year-old was struggling to cycle up a hill one day, and I overheard her say, 'Power engines'! :/

Hehe, has she heard you playing :) Or does she play Elite herself already?

Think that will be OK in my situation. My boy is upstairs and we have a fence in staircase. I sit down in the basement and there is only the washing machine and dry tumbler making noise sometimes.

I use my Logitech webcam/mic works great apart from when my 5yr Old coming in to the room shouting
"Computer Jump" casing a jump sequence to start
or "Computer Galaxy" starting the map. :D

But you have a wife/girlfreind/partner!!! :-/ Also in a year or so that gate will be removed.

Already commented on you situation old chap!!!

There is another alternative, the throat mic, which is what I use, they work perfectly well with voice attack, while I retrofitted a spare I had from my time in the army, they are also available to buy commercially.

Ok, that's clever! Well at least until my other half realises that by grabbing the baby monitor she has a direct line into my brain, "hey! Stop playing that stupid game and make the tea..."

She doesn't use voice attack, but she does valet park my ships for me sometimes!

I prefer my speakers to headphones, mostly because my bookshelf speakers are far superior to my cans. I've been using the Zalman ZM-MIC1 for VoiceAttack and it works great. It's tacked right above my heart and picks up fine; I rarely need to repeat commands with the bookshelf speakers at medium volume. (the louder the speakers are, the tougher it is for the mic)

However, I wouldn't use the Zalman for voice coms w/o headphones. This mic is designed to pair with higher-end non-gamer headphones. But voice coms with speakers is generally a bad idea.

btw the wire not real long so has to plug in the front mic jack of your computer.

If you have an xbox 360 controller for your pc, and assuming the mic has a mini jack, you can plug it into the base of the controller and use the mic that way.

I've got one of these and it works great, sits on my desk about 50cm away though comes with an adheisive pad so I could stuck it out the way under the desk. Cost about £10
It's a boundary mic

This looks nice. Would suit perfectly just lying on the desk. But I Can only find more expensive variants in Sweden. Perhaps you can tell me where they are sold and i can order one?

I have been doing the classic concentrate circle towards voice attack and Asta for about the month (initially looking at the logitech headset that over £100 and is wireless has great reviews). But dang really can not justify that kind of expense.
I took the jump yesterday and bought a headset and all the voice software yesterday and ooh nice (though now tinkering with setting is becoming a game/activity all in in itself.
I have not used voice reconition before and i am an instant convert and even beyond the game.
headsets are ok i live with it but i do like to play music through speakers i also like playing Elite dangerous with some volume through my speakers as it give more of a viscral imersive feeling plus i find headsets get a bit annoying to wear after a while and i am not a huge fan of issolating myself from the noises of real life (got to know when cat is telling me she wants something).

Its good to know that their are options for using and it seems people are having a positve experiance with using just an ext mic with speakers.

It makes me chuckle how i always seem to set up something new on the pc then i end up buying more things and tweeking settings.
I will go get a nice little cheepy mic for desk top soon nice to know that it will most likely avoid the box of random wires and periphials that grows fuller each year.

I use a logitech 510 keyboard which means i can plug the headset to keyboard works great.

I found a program that i have downloaded (its free) works great and seems free of any nasty snoopy stuff.

Its called "Soundswitch" this means now i can switch with one button between headset to desktop speakers.
Saves me having to unplug headset everytime i want the speakers on. which is great as i am super lazy and and we all know pluging and unplugging audio mic jacks is the fastest way of destroying either the male or female connector.

Highly recomend it if you have a headset and speakers set round your pc.

Have not used xbox controllers yet is certainly on my todo list (i womder how a wireless controller will act with lantencey esspecially if using voice control via the headset socket on the things) if it works well may not be great for intence play but a nice way to cick back on long trade sessions or explorations.

I may go to the dark side and buy a console as elite is going to xbox too and i really need the practice on the pads as the few times i have been forced to sit down in front of a console and one of those pads i am terrible i kid you not my right hand in any intensity trys to grab a phantom mouse - over riding decades of mouse mussle memory hahahahaha

I had a discussion with a guy over at the VA forum, he tried out a throat mic for voice commands and the results were not that good. You can read the post here. I'm wondering whether having a decent quality laryngophone is what's needed to get better results with VA. Can you link me to the actual product you are using please, so I can check this mic out for myself.
