Hardware & Technical Voice Attack?

Hi folks.

I'm contemplating on buying Voice Attack just for ED, I know a lot of you guys and gals use it, but I'm wondering if its hard to configure first time around?

I'm not the sharpest knife in the box when it comes to setting up technical stuff. any tips or words of advice would be very helpful.

Hi,
I'm thinking of getting voice attack too.
There are a couple of videos on you tube, which are helpful, & show it to be fairly straight forward, to set up a profile for Elite Dangerous.

Seriously I have virtually no computer skills and it only took a short time to work out what to do. Setting up all the commands the way you want takes a while but OMG it's worth it. You can feel a little silly shouting 'Thrust' repeatedly in an ever increasingly desperate way! There are also some awesome add ons available. You'll need an average head set as well.

VA is actually rather easy to get to work... if you can configure macro keys for a gaming mouse or keyboard.. then you'll have exactly zero problems.

for $8.00 USD its a program that you can buy for the amount of money you toss into a soda machine in a week or two... or a couple visits to a coffee shop.

If you get stuck I can send you my profile and bindings, it has about 2200 commands, so covers pretty much everything you can think of. You can request docking and do everything else in the game without touching a single button.

The key parts of the program are VERY easy to use, if you want to set up more intricate options there are several ways, including just asking who can make it and people often do.

OP > If you just want the software to press a button when you say something, it's extremely easy to configure. If you're interested and want to spend time on your profile, you can make very complex commands that will need a good understanding of how voice attack works, using variables and stuff... very powerful but completely optional.

Bonsek > You can't unless you temporarily disable TrackIR, which isn't very immersive in my opinion... Main problem is, VA isn't aware of which panel is currently active on your left panel... All in all, while it would be very cool (I hope they put a shortcut button for docking permission at some point), at the moment it's much faster and simpler to just do it manually.

Do you know if you can request docking with VA while using TrackIR?

I use TRackIR and have voice commands to disable/enable it when needed. Unfortunately as stated above you have to pause tracking before requesting docking. I disagree with the comment above, what is complicated about saying 'pause tracking' 'request docking' ? it takes me 2 seconds and I never take my hand of the stick and throttle. You can even setup the command to automatically pause track IR, request docking then re enable trackIR.

I really do hope they add more key commands to disable modules and directly request docking with a single key. The beauty of Voice attack is your mind is really the only limit, I add roughly 10 to 15 new commands a day, it's now completely natural interfacing with the ship and the profile keeps evolving.

I do a VA request docking just fine... not sure why tracking would be an issue..

My personal two favorite VA I created was actually landing and launching...

The lunch one is:
As soon as the 'Launch' is highlighted I say 'Launch'
it selects the button
it waits 20 sec for the animation
it lifts straight up off the pad for 4 seconds (in a base that puts me facing the letterbox)
it sets power to engines
it raises landing gear
it set speed at 25%
And it plays a voice that "Launching Commencing"

The 'dock' one is simpler:
Once I am on the landing pad I say 'dock' it says "docking" (Altho I have a typo so it says "Ducking")
It lowers the pad
waits 17 seconds (I think)
moves the curser to the refuel all and selects
it moves to repair and selects

I love my VA... makes my off-hand playing style so comfortable!

Don't get me wrong VA is awesome but...

... beware hot key functions like boost. VA is truly excellent for not critical things, any secondary controls like cargo scoop or galaxy map, but will occasionally misfire a command.

It's funny the first time your engines get shut down in the middle of a dogfight but, YMMV.

You should take a look at the 'command weight' setting in the options, I have mine set to 60 and have never had an unwanted command. Theirs also a simple solution for safeguarding things like boost, I see some people will simply say 'Boost' or 'afterburners' it would be better to use multiple words to avoid an error, for example 'Boost engines' 'enable afterburners' 'maximum thrust' That way you will never have an error.

EDIT - For trackIR users, here's the part of my profile that handles docking. It will automatically pause trackIR, request docking for you, then resume tracking. Only thing you need to do is assign your trackIR pause button to 'F' or change the profile to whatever pause key you have assigned.
