VoiceAttack: Where to get voice packs?

I've searched both here and the voiceattack google group and found nothing.

I'd like to get a new voice pack for voice attack for my ship, happy to try both male and female, depends what sounds cool.

Anyone know a good place to get any?

Thanks

I've not found any decent free one's. But you could try IVONA, their voices are fantastic. You can download and try (I think it's Anna) for 28 days. Once installed just select it as default in the windows speech to txt config.

Blimey, look at those prices! They're having a larf arn't they!

I got Ivona Emma for the 49 euro promotional deal (luckily that was my favourite British voice). It seemed like reasonable value to me, it is hardly a mass market product and it surely required a lot of work and investment to bring it to the standard it's reached.

I use the bundled reader to record snippets as .wav files and then play them back with GlovePIE (which I use in preference to VoiceAttack, though I did purchase and use the latter for a while). (edit: have just seen that GlovePIE can play the voices using speech synthesis, so will be doing that from now on!)

It's always possible to use the evaluation version to create snippets, or even to record snippets (with appropriate software) from the ivona web demonstration system.

Just follow this guide

You need to tinker a bit with the Windows registry but nothing complicated, and pretty safe if you pay attention to the simple procedure

Tried myself and they work just fine on Win7 x64; not as good as the IVONA voices, but better than the stock "Anna"

I had 'noticed' this feature myself :) I don't have a huge use for the full on voice pack (to justify that cost), just a few specific phrases - mostly single words because they sound more natural.

I done that window reg hack along time ago to get those extra MS voices, but ultimately their not very good.

If anyone is looking to buy some good x64 voices. Open SAPI5 voices that can work both as windows default x64 and any x64 app.

I think the best x64 voices (open sapi5 to work as default windows x64 voice and any other x64 app) are really only the ones from IVONA, and AT&T (Buy + Demo), and then this other company called Cereproc. I've searched the internet and there are none better in my opinion than IVONA and Cereproc, with a 3rd place by AT&T.

There are two others in the top list Nuance (really good), and Acapela but these two only work with the partnered software from Nextup.com , and are not Open SAPI5 which I mentioned above you need in order for x64 bit voices to work in other windows x64 apps like Voice attack/teamspeak x64 etc. Although I've not tried this to see its wrong, not without buying them.

AT&T are ok, but my favourites are IVONA and Cereproc.

Cereproc

IVONA
http://www.ivona.com/en/voices/

Cereproc do very good Scottish and other UK accents. Still not quite as good and clear as IVONA, but for the cheap price they are £25.99 https://www.cereproc.com/en/storesapi are good value I think.

I do like the Scottish Heather voice. And there are many other 'moody' voices like the Scottish Dodo one, and Scottish Stuart is very good. The Irish ones, and Sue English 'black country' accent. You can hear the different accents. Good to have this many to choose from so you get your perfect AI voice, or buy a few and chop and change them.

And if you want a J.A.R.V.I.S. from Ironman, then the cereproc 'Giles' or 'William' are pretty good 'English butler' voices.

In fact for English 'English' and 'Scottish' voices, the cereproc ones do have more life and personality in them. I like them. And for windows reading back to me, I've just bought IVONA Indian English Raveena, and a couple from cereproc. I plan to use VA for some time so feel happy to pay for the voices, lifetime licences and upgrades remember.

Both companies will most likely give you a 10% discount if you email them first. cereproc voice are a little cheaper, maybe not quite as clear as IVONA, but they have more regional US/UK accents which is fun.

Agreed, the voices from Ivona are excellent. I've been using British Amy for awhile now and it is very good. They are a little expensive, but I'll be using it and voice attack in Elite and other games for a long time to come.

There is the open source espeak:
http://espeak.sourceforge.net/index.html
If you have an ivona voice installed it can play any text you type in with that voice, even after the trial has expired, and save it as a wav.

That's not for me, I can see good use value from spending a little cash.

£25.99 for the cereproc voices or just a little more for the IVONA ones

Plus it would take so long to create over 200 commands, plus all the random alternative replies I've also got going on. Voice attack now does random responses from a long list you can enter. You can actually get a pretty good AI voice overall.

Thanks for all the info the this thread JonnyRedHead

Can you guys give me a quick tutorial on how to get the 'stock' voice responses from Voice Attack?

I don't see it in the software.

Read the VA guide, it should help you with this feature: http://www.voiceattack.com/howto.aspx 'Receive audible feedback'

More specifically (from that tutorial):

VoiceAttack provides two ways to get audible feedback: Via playing a .wav file or through Text to Speech.

If you want to spice up your gameplay or just have confirmation of a started or completed command, just click on the 'Other' button on the Add or Edit Command screen.
Choose either the, 'Play a sound file' option or the 'Say the following using Text to Speech' option.
Click the, 'OK' button and you now have audible feedback in your sequence :)
Playing wav sounds is actually a really nice option. I prefer a very short confirmation sound for some commands (mainly to know the voice command has been executed). This is a nice way of doing it whilst still using a sound you like.

Also from this thread:

It's always possible to use the evaluation version to create snippets, or even to record snippets (with appropriate software) from the ivona web demonstration system.

In my opinion the Ivona voices are superior to the built in windows text to voice (that VA will use by default).

If you don't mind putting a little bit of time into it - using a free program like Audacity is a very straight forward way to create a few custom voice files from the Ivona demo / website.

If you can have the right language TTS voices and don't mind spending a little money. Then the x64 voices from IVONA and CereProc are the best options.

With the now random responses available in VA, if you choose to create and edit hundreds of wav files that's up to you. For ease of use, live TTS is the best right from your computer.
