Void Opal Mining - Broken?

50 Void Opal cores yielding 12 VO's each is a conservative path to 1 billion credits (40 cores is a very realistic number if one knows how to get reliable yields around 15) If you are somehow only finding and mining one 4 cores an hour (once again very conservative, I'd call 1 core every 15 minutes an unlucky outing), that is 12.5 hours. Whatever it time it takes to get out of your Sidewinder and into a Cobra along with finding the required modules can be added to that. I doubt I could personally pull it off in one day, but it is absolutely possible.

I arrived at Colonia and bought and totally outfitted an Asp X there then proceeded to make over 1 billion credits in one day VO mining a while back. It was the 2nd time I had ever VO mined.
Combat From a Sidewinder to a Cobra. Pretty easy when Bounties are around 40k to 100k on the Large ships. You can do it in the one location in the Current Starter systems. Might take 30 Minutes to 2 hours.

If you are dealing with small ships Sidewinders and Cobras around 2 Hours.

Could a salty commander start a new game, knowing all they know, and accomplish what you've stated? I don't know. Maybe, but I doubt it. In other games I've played I have quickened the process of character advancement a lot when starting a new game. That was because of all the time I spent prior, that made me knowledgeable of those processes. Again not to be disrespectful, but there is no flipping way that you as a new commander made trade Elite on your first day to the game. There is just to much to know and learn and do. The learning curve is a sharp one in ED and progression steep. Also there is no way you made a billion credits your first day VO mining as a new commander. Seririously, please stop digging yourself further into the pile...

Let me guess you having a misfortune of being a bad miner? That not my fault. Go watch a few Youtube Videos on how to locate Void Opals and reset your account and try it. If you have an issue please ask questions.

Note this guy did not start on a new account. But a Billion credits in a day and Elite Trader. 4 Runs.

Notice how everyone that calls you out must have terrible luck at mining, I see a pattern here. Btw I have fine luck at mining Void Opals, some nights are better than others, sure, but you didn't do it in a day and I think you are telling fish stories. And no, I'm not going to reset my account to prove some dumb point because that would be stupid. Have fun.

Well I, not a new player I been playing since Alpha. I run 3 accounts. I also play Ironman mode. So when I die I restart the game. All I am doing it Pointing out a major game issue. Yes, I can do Elite Trader in a day. Right now Two accounts are working on Combat Elite. Which has Elite Traders.

So You are going some night you have better than Others. So do you admit you are staying in bad spots for a long time? Longer than an hour? That a Noob mistake. If I don't see Void Opals in 15 Minutes or less I will hit supercruise and move to a different spot. I also don't land dead on to the Void Opal Mining location because it already been minded to death. I also don't Focus on the planet as a reference point because everyone does that. So I focus on a Star or another Mining Location. You have a better chance of finding Void Opals. If you want to keep your speed max. Shoot your Prospector while sliding right or left so it will not hit your ship. It works great on the Python. Also if you are not using Head look buttons to look right and left. You are relying on Tunnel vision of the screen that a major Fail on your part. I have the Tobii Eye tracker so I am able to scan right or left while flying. I soon to have Oculus Rift S when it comes out.

Maybe you need to learn new tactics and watch more youtube videos.

Not as a new player unfamiliar with the waters of Elite Dangerous. As a seasoned vet with account 2, you certainly can.

We're talking about 24 hours, which in reality is like 3 full work days so it's a bit misleading.

Roger that. Not a new player. But possibly a veteran commander knowing how to make gains in the quickest possible way, then playing their 3rd new account for 24 hours straight, like a mad man on Meth, all while following their diabolical formula to reach Elite trader in the quickest possible time, all just to prove the Elite trade rank is broken... That sets precedence for all other commanders regarding VO mining... Right?

Basically. I did it with the Smeaton runs and wasn't trying to hit Elite. It just happens.

The issue isn't that trading is broken or that VO's are broken. The issue is that we have a dozen or more activities that are measured toward 3 categories, many of which don't even fit correctly. Hauling passengers to the same beacon countless times makes you an elite explorer. Imagine being an elite explorer because you drove a tour bus at a theme park. Mining makes you a trader, even though you're not trading anything. You're selling stuff you gathered. It should go toward mining elite, or not count toward anything other than your bank account, and only buying and selling from the market should count toward trade elite. You can transport bulk passengers and the game considers it goods bought at station A and sold at station B at basically 100% profit.

So when people call these fun activities broken because they shorten the time required to reach these ranks (that in the old days meant something more), don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. Maybe fix the ranking system. I couldn't care less if VO mining never increased rank one tick, same with passengers. However I would like to see both sides appeased. We can have abundance of fun, credit earning activites (because some people like to see the Cr numbers increase) without contaminating the concept of Elite.

Word!

Took a while to find a few honey holes with multiple hot spots and outside the bubble. Can be a bit boring but its a rather easy 90Million per trip and the detonation sequence in the rings is entertaining. What kills me is there is always a eagle or other oddity way out in the middle of nowhere,...LOL!

I’ll say one thing for core mining, it’s an activity the external camera is awesome for!!
Great way of spotting the core roids when you’re in a ship with poor visibility, and the views are eye candy!

I'm new to this malarkey but it seems that you can earn a cosmic f%&kton of money doing relatively little, at no risk, right in the heart of the bubble, and the most broken^Hamazing part is that it's not even remotely grindy.

It feels like someone's made a bit of a mistake with this. It renders just about every money-making elements of this game pointless. (Cue folks who say they make more per hour trading.) Or at the very least, it makes other kinds of mining pointless.

How long has this been part of the game? Is it due for a vigorous personal encounter with the nerf bat?

Well going by what they said back there.
Void Opal Mining is Effectively Supposed to cause a Goldrush.

But Void Opal Spots are Limited and are getting Depleted.
So basicly once the are Depleted Finding New Veines is Supposed to lead out of the Bubble etc etc

Yup. It's the hastily cobbled together redressing of the risk:reward ratio, FD style! ;)
