VR advice please.

I can't stop fiddling.!
With the settings of steam vr, Windows 11 wmd, and of course ingame, as well as nvidia settings it's ridiculous! Lol.
But I found my comfort zone.
The G2 reverb is truly awesome. I had a rift S before it looked pale in comparison across the board best upgrade I've ever done.
Recently went to a 3070ti to power it. And oh boy yeah having horses under the bonnet make a huge difference.
3090fe on its way with a better cpu/board and yup things can only get hotter, er! Better..
Odyssey is stunning in reverb vr. Truly...
Played elite since the headset came out, prior to that the rift s.
I love high resolution combined with rendering smoothly. It's a hard combination to perfect in vr...impossible in 4k I'd say. Fdev have alot to do in that regard.
Fx quality ingame setting on high uses alot of gpu. As does bloom and shadows etc.
It's finding that balance. All sliders maxed on ultra etc ain't gonner work.
So expect alot of arsing about across the pc and ingame.
One more thing.
Overclocking memory can result in poor rendering and flashes of bygone images across the screen for a split second.
I've learned through lots of 1 switch tests, that alot of Overclocking is both unnecessary and problematic.
Xmp profiles etc.
Switch em off... reset default try ingame (not benchs they ain't ingame!) And see if the game runs more stable...
Ain't for all I'm sure just observations.
I'm undervolted now which is stock without the temps hehe.

Odyssey in vr is amazing!
Sorry but it is!
Why am l apologising hehe?
I feel somehow guilty of having my cake...
But its that good.
I've never played elite in 2D.

Probably two reasons:
1. You are very aware many Elite Dangerous players (past, present and hopefully future) have never had the VR experience that you know well i.e. they simply do not know how transformative it can be.

2. You are liking the Odyssey experience despite well known issues around the on-foot gameplay and performance to which I'm going to suggest you've found your own solution or compromise for. I've noticed this trend over the past year where players adopting Odyssey are satisfied to play within the confines of what they know and enjoy where as players looking at the full spectrum on offer experience, shall we say, 'a lot of friction' and leave it at that since is covered elsewhere in the forums.

It also illustrates unfortunately how much GPU power is needed for current high resolution HMDs in most VR titles, which I wish it wasn't so but it can make it a bit exclusive because of the price of entry. At least its growing as a platform, I do believe we will see big progress over the next 10yrs.

VR is niche?
I'm not so sure.
If I took a straw poll I'd guess, and it's just a guess, that there's about 2000 or so cmdrs in elite vr.
Perhaps 5% of the total playebase logged in at any one time.
Yet we are so vocal....very vocal..we get heard!!
But they still dropped vr development in odyssey.
Secretly l think the devs play in vr and for that reason we've nowt to worry about

After reading the thread, I have the impression that people using SteamVR are having less performance than people using Oculus (where aviable). I just tested it on my old CV1 and I have the feeling that it is the case
I believe this too. I have it on Steam, but have never installed it. I bought straight from Fdev, and play via Oculus software. I mentioned this in a thread a week or so ago, but Yep, I'm with you.
This is also my experience. Though I haven't bothered testing recently so it might be better now but I remember it being noticeable. And it isn't hardware. People have compared performance of different devices (including oculus devices) on Steam, with sliders set so the resolutions of the HMDs e.g. Q2 and G2 are matched as close to possible and the performance difference is negligible. So it's either Steam VR's slightly lower performance or Meta...
Man, I read you guys about getting "Average" experiences using a 3080ti or a 3090 with R9 5900x and I wonder If I should wait for the RTX 4000 series in September. What hurts me the more besides the waiting (and the chance that it will be as difficult to get like the 3000 series) its the rumored 400-600 watts usage and the current and future increases in power prices.
Yup.
I have a 3600x, 3080ti and 16GB. I am playing only EDH, not EDO. On my specs I am still unable to max my Q2 slider and that's with it set to 80Hz. I am also not fully maxing settings either. That said, I like planetary and HazRez gameplay ao I have that locked to 80Hz because I hate re-projection. Others may be less fussy than me?
