So. Saw a picture of this bad boy in the latest newsletter. Can't find any mention anywhere whether Elite: Dangerous actually supports these goggles or not. Anyone know?

I would prefer the snazzy Sony Morpheus over the clunky Oculus Rift...

They said that they would like to support. Morpheus is nowhere close to production at this point. So that's for future.

I thought the Morpheus goggles were supposed to be PS4 only. In that case, it really just depends on what platforms you are using...

There was a big long discussion about ED and whether Morpheus would be supported, but it got moved out of the ED forums and put down in the generic non-ED hardware forum for some reason.

There are links to Sony announcing it and stating they are focussing solely on PS4 during development. I don't know if this information has changed, but it would seem unlikely.

So, assuming that info still holds true, then for now at least, there is no ED on PS4 and no Morpheus on anything but PS4, so ED support is possible in the future, but a long way off for now.

If what you say is true, then why is it mentioned in the latest Elite: Dangerous newsletter #18?: http://us2.campaign-archive2.com/?u=dcbf6b86b4b0c7d1c21b73b1e&id=89b597852e

Sssshhhh! Careful here - you'll wake up Beachlight lol :)

After the FB/OR debacle - if I go for any VR headset it'll probably be Sony's offering. That way the PS4 might get switched on more than once a week lol

I'll be interested to find out how they plan on interfacing it to a PC.

As I suspect the CV Rift will be the cheaper, better and sooner option, that's the one I'll go for.

If something better is available for a reasonable price, I'll go for that.

Don't really care about the Facebook thing, as I have nothing to do with it, and see no compelling reason to change that behaviour!

one thing about the Sony headset that nobody seems to mention is that so far we don't even know if what we are looking at is a working prototype - you can make just about any product look well styled if it doesn't have to actually work.

Yep, what they've shown is just a mock up as they have nothing. The final product might end up looking like a welder's face shield.

The Sony prototype does indeed look snazzier than the Oculus prototype, but I've never understood this mentality. Unless you expect to be staring at someone using them for a long time I'd rather have a headset that's prettier on the inside than the outside.

its the same reason people spend so much money on designer frames for their glasses - vanity. its often not enough for something to work well, it has to look good on your face when you're wearing it, even though you won't see it yourself when you do.

the same could be said for t shirts with printing on the back, despite the fact that you cant see the image you still want it to look good on you.

I do not think it's a question of vanity. This is mainly (for me in any case) the size, the volume which is a straitjacket. If the évolution of the technology allows of reduced the size, like eyeglasses, then it will be perfect

How about combining a pair of these ..

With some DIY headtracking? Like ....

There's a bunch of us on the alpha forum playing with low cost DIY head tracking. One commander is developing a prototype PCB into which the components can be soldered (Sparkfun Pro Micro , MPU-6050 breakout and a push button switch). At the moment the DIY cost is about 10-15 quid if sourced cheaply :) We're USB at the moment and the device puts out updates at about 100hz. I plan to experiment with bluetooth but I like to keep latency as low as possible.

Wouldn't that work?
£2bn for a small development company sounds like a LOT of money to me.
These two, combined with Voice Attack, talking full deal VR for under £100?
That should help to keep the Oculus Rift price point down ..

And finally, if being a fashionista commander is your thing, how about something much more 29th century
