VR Help wanted

Ok so i have a newly purchased Reverb G2 and i also downloaded the dlc from Frontier so i could avoid Steam and steam vr. I read that using open XR with WMR without Steam is the best way if you can do it. Apparently my RTX 3060 is right on the edge of playing ED in VR and having a good experience. So i am hoping somone can give me advice on my setup. Does anyone know if ED Profiler works with open XR i cant seem to find that out. I have been tinkering for a while with this and have found that there are many combinations and little stupid adjustments really mess things up. So i look forward to any help. Thanks

I have it setup Perfectly using Open XR on a 3090 and a Reverb G2. If you want to know more, you can join my Teamspeak Server at: casualcrew.teamspeak3.com Make sure you have A MIC.

See ya there.

I run g2 on 3060ti. I exchanged steamVR for OpenXR via OpenComposite + OpenXR tools + OpenXR Toolkit. This way I got access to FSR and Fixed foveated rendering. Both make a lot of difference as I can lower native randering resolution to 70-80% via FSR and blur the edges we I don't see clearly due to fresnel lenses limitations anyway via fixed foveated rendering and then crank up supersampling in ingame settings to 1.25 to 1.5 (or simply use motion reprojection locked at 45 fps+ fixerd foveated rendering without FSR). This gave me performance boost and better image quality at the same time.

More info on how to implement openXR can be found here:

Thanks for your responses. I found a nice sweet spot. so i am running openxr with steam. i did the developer setting change to force it to openxr. my setting in openxr are 35% with motion reprojection off. The steam settings are set at 90 hz with render resolution at 1900x1860. motion smoothing is on. Then the in game settings are all around medium how ever i have the HMD setting at 2.0 wich i have never been able to do. also in steam settings i have set field of view at 75% with world scale off. i cant believe how good it is and if you have advice i am all ears . I should mention that supersampling is in ultra but i have the radeon tech turned on. i believe it equals 1.25. I do have open composite and i can run it with the Frontier DLC that i have using the openxr toolkit but i couldnt make it this smooth. i am sure i was missing something. i also was getting a lot or errors. thanks again i think i am starting to get it little by little

Sounds a bit odd what youve posted above. To run openxr you wont need steam. Youll need microsoft openxr runtime installed and youll need opencomposite. Read this to get an understanding - https://mbucchia.github.io/OpenXR-Toolkit/opencomposite.html
You dont actually need the OpenXR Toolkit to begin with.
From that page you can also get the openvr_api.dll file which needs to replace the one in ED in folder
C:\Users\bob\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\elite-dangerous-odyssey-64\Openvr\win64
Once replaced you can run opencomposite and click the switch button. Next time your run ED youll see that it wont start up steamvr.
Then you can have fun with all the different scaling options in all the different places.
A simple way to start is just leave Microsoft OpenXR Tools at 100% ie

If you can handle 60Hz in VR then youll really see performance improvement setting the below in Mixed Reality Portal

And then just play around with the scaling inside Elite.
In ED you could start with SS at 1 and lower your HMD res, starting at 50% and work your way up.
FSR just looks horrible i find so try leaving scaling on NORMAL and use the HMD res instead.
