All these years in the making, resources diverted for it, and FD not even being able to work out a basic VR support doesn't reflect well on the company.
I suggest that FD take a look at this: https://github.com/LukeRoss00/gta5-real-mod
Basically this guy ALONE did the job paid devs should have done for GTA 5, a VERY complex game. He uses a technique called "alternate eye rendering" where every frame is alternated very quickly between the eyes to halve the workload on the gpu.
There is some annoying image jitter due to refresh when moving the head but valve and microsoft are already aware of it and updates are due to come to support VR.
Even basic support would bring you back vr players.
