VR question.

When I moved to VR just over two years ago (Rift), GTX1080 seemed to be the tipping point of price/performance, so I went for that and its been okay. 1050ti is well below that, so you would be into dial down of settings. For VR you need smooth performance otherwise vomitometer rachets up quickly.

This is with max settings, everything on ultra.

DK2 - 1070 ran everything fine
CV1 - 1080TI ran everything fine 90fps 1x HMD 1.5SS
Reverb purchased recently, looks absolutely stunning, 1080TI runs everything fine except ED, gonna have to go for a 2080 superclock or 2080TI

I wouldn't suggest anything less than a 1080 with a HMD like the CV1 or Rift-S

I'm still running on a 980Ti, and have no problems with the Odyssey+. You can pick up a 980Ti for less than £200 now (I got one for £150 not long ago to test out SLI), and I haven't yet found a game it can't handle well.

I run Witcher 3 on ultra 4k with a vega64 I bought 350€ two years ago. Elite at Open ShinDez will struggle for everyone. P2P is the great equalizer.

My advice is, if you're on a budget, buy the headset first. Plenty of awesome VR games should be fine with a 1050. Gnog, Trover, Superhot. Helmet's prices arent that fluctuating, but vga cards, oh my...

So... i installed the rift whit gtx 1050.
It's working aldo wen putting the rift on i get a notification that the specs are to low BUT... its running fine. The introduction whit the robot was very funny. AND... Elite is running just fine on it. I play on high graphics settings in game and no stuttering or what ever. BUT IN SHORT ED IS A COMPLETE DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE IN VR. That brings me to one more question... What is your favorite ship in VR ?.

The type 9 or the mamba

Glad you got it working 👍

I spend most of my time in the Cobra because I’m a bluff old traditionalist, but any cockpit/bridge with glass below your feet is great for sense-of-scale when landing - the Krait is excellent for this and has the added benefit of massive guns either side of your seat :)

I normally fly the Corvette but there is something whit the long noise i can't explain... Same whit the anaconda actually. So for me it's keelback or cutter because i like slf seport. And yes of course the cobra 😊

The Asp Explorer's glorious forward view is even more spectacular in VR, though discovery scanner stuff is a bit disorientating on a headset, so I've not flown it a lot. So I'll pick the Mamba's glorious cockpit bubble that allows you to stand up out of your chair, look behind you and see the Huge gun mount the size of a bus behind your head. It's also brilliant in a dogfight to be able to lean over and see what's above and behind you, rather than just relying on the scanner.

When VR systems launched in 2016, most had the 1050Ti as the minimum spec.

Since then some have lowered the specs, and others have raised them, but overall when buying a new system, I'd avoid 1050 or 2050 models for use with VR.

As always, checking the vendor's website for recommended specs is, well, recommended ;-)

Congrats!

My fav is also the AspX or T-9. But hey, why not check them all out!

Don't forget to literally get up out of your chair and walk around a bit :-D

recently my much loved and upgraded on a semi regular basis gaming PC went bang (well the graphics card did but dont tell the wife) so I was forced to buy and upgrade (cough) so I went for a scan system VR ready water cooled beast with a 2080 RTX all over clocked as cough i need a decent spec to write code on (again don't tell the wife) and bought the latest Oculus rift as a Christmas present thinking it will be a bit of fun but it cant be that good.

My god playing Elite in VR is just ......

Its just a different game and so much more intense its hard to describe doing PVE dog fighting in anything with decent visibility such as a Chieftain is glorious (only bad points is trying to use the maps) and in fact even deep core mining and flying around roids is great fun

Mind you getting wife and the kids when all drunk to play the VR roller coaster ride standing up is giggles for everyone (wife and her sister fell over screaming 10 times)

I only bought the headset as a bit of a hmm some games look fun I am a techy lets go for it but it really is a different level and if you can you should....

Great to hear you’ve got it working and are happy with it OP. Now you’re on the slippery slope ..... and there’s no better place to be in VR;)
