Newcomer / Intro Vulture Heat Damage Using Beam Lasers - What am I Missing Here?

Hi Guys

Got myself a vulture pretty much A Kitted out I made sure that the power management allows me to use my Beam lasers but now they seem to overheat and cause internal heat damage when I use them.

What am I missing in the kitting out or using them stage and how can I compromise them back so that they can work without overheating my ship.

I even downgraded my kill Warrant scanner to allow for power headroom when using them.

Thanks

Kaid

The latest update to the game balanced things out so that certain weapons such Beam Lasers, Plasma Accelerators and Shield Cell Banks now generate heat. Using two beams at once will worsen the effect. Your total power available has nothing to do with it so changing your Kill Warrant Scanner won't actually make a difference.

The things that can help are making sure you're using an A rated Power Plant (Higher ratings on Power Plants have better heat efficiency), or consider fitting heat sinks. Other than that, all you can do is keep an eye on your heat levels and give your ship a couple seconds to cool down every now and again. The other option is of course downgrading to Burst or Pulse as they generate significantly less heat.

The short answer is there is not much you can do, unless you feel like messing with heat sinks, and that will only last you so long. The Vulture is just too small a frame without sufficient heat dissipation to cool class 3 beams for any length of time, nor for that matter, a large enough power distributor to run two for very long. The burst DPS you can do is nice, but you spend too much time waiting for the capacitor to refill and the ship to cool off.
.
You may be better served to either go with dual pulse lasers, or a single beam with a class 3 cannon. Both configurations are still powerful against NPC's, and you'll have less heat issues and be able to sustain your fire longer, hence, probably doing more damage in the long run.

Split 3 pips to power and weapons. If you go 2/4 it will overheat. Sys pips determine cooling rate. Also heat can be affected at nav Beacons that are close to the star, putting the ship in a higher heat state than at other locations further away. Watch your heat build up and move pips from weaps to sys as needed depending on the situation. At 2 pips in weapons you probably won't overheat, but you'l drain the capacitor faster.

Another reason why most Vulture pilots use Pulse lasers instead. They run cooler and last longer allowing you to sustain damage over time more efficiently. Go to Youtube and watch Kornelius Briedis 's videos.

I used to use a Vulture with a C3 gimballed beam. I could hold it on for a long time without overheating. That was before 1.5, but I haven't heard that they changed anything on the Vulture since then. I had a multi-cannon on the other side, which I only used in emergencies, so I switched it off to save power. I also switched off everything else that I didn't need, like the cargo hold and any discovery scanners. I also switched off the FSD as soon as I arrived at the combat site.

Class 3 beams on a Vulture is going to generate massive amounts of heat. They fire much longer on the bigger FAS but even then heat is generated. I've found Class 3 pulse works great on the Vulture and gets the job done. With the FAS I use sustained fire with the beams then switch to guns and manually pulse fire the beams as needed. Thus the heat issues are resolved.

I was using dual beams on my vulture for four or five days and was having the same issue. I wasn't dying all that often but the time it took to kill stuff and not just completely overheat felt like I was sitting around ALOT. I switched back to dual pulses and I definitely feel like not only am i doing more damage and sustaining it for longer but it feels like i'm moving through RES sites much quicker from target to target. I put 4 pips into weapons and even when they get thermal overload after all weapon power is out they continue to fire back and forth and do the same damage. If i let up off the trigger, the weapons recharge super fast and I'm back in action no problems. When shields drop, pop one pip off weapons over to system and they still do decent damage without overloading and let your shields get back up that much quicker.
