Walking around your Mandalay? Now you can!

Ever wondered, what's behind the stairway door?
Thanks to the new Mandalay Quest Pack, you can phase through the ship with the camera suite.

There's enough space behind the door for a hallway.
You know... I rather fancy that old piece of concept art where it looks like what living space/crawl space one's smaller ship has, is the irregular volumes left over between various modules of different shapes and sizes, with amenitites crammed into whatever crevices and orientations formed -- looked really lived-in, too, with the warm patina of decades of grime cleaned up over and over again using the tangle of oily cotton waste in your back pocket -- cosy and petrifyingly claustophobic at the same time. :p (EDIT: No bloody immaculate football-field size staterooms here - this is a working ship. :p)

This reminded me of the time when it was possible to access the FC concourse with the camera, when it was originally added but before it was released.

As excited as it would make me but it seems to be the SRV hangar which exists in some much older ships (Mamba), too.

Frankly, at this point if the choice was the ability to get up from my pilot chair, walk to the cockpit door then (after a button press) instantly teleport to the SRV bay in preparation to entering the vehicle - I'd take it in a heartbeat. No questions asked.

Same here but when you look at the images, you will see that there isn't a connection between the SRV bay and the cockpit.

Hence, the teleport 😁 I'd like to have that full experience of walking down the ship corridor to the SRV bay too but getting that ship interior experience in whatever chunks we can get is a very critical step forward. It's been ten years waiting, high time to get FD to move 🤷‍♂️

I wish that, too. The hangar exists as an asset in all ships because it is partially shown during the docking procedure. I don't have screenshots from other ships where players could clip through internal structures but I believe they look identical. If they don't then the OP is at something.

Perhaps 2025 has something for us explorers and those who see their ship as their home.

Such a real shame the rear of the cockpit isn't joined up to the door leading outside. Just running up the stairs and into the ships flight deck would be super great.
Why can't this ability be added as a small DLC for all ships. Or even arx. Would that make it a cost effective endeavour?

Flimley

it isn't that easy as it was discussed in other threads about ship legs. There is probably a transition to black necessary as it is when boarding/unboarding an SRV. A fairly seamless looking approach may be to enter the airlock and pass a 'decontamination' procedure like we experience in Mass Effect. When the airlock opens then we are either planetside/on the stairs or inside the ship which has its own environment.
A DLC could also solve the issue for those players who don't see value in ship environments: They experience 'fade to black' whereas DLC owners can opt for the on-foot procedure.

FDev could start with the SRV hangar as the first asset because it already exists when the ship is equipped with it and could add simple gameplay such as 'SRV hot deployment' i.e. ship hovers over the planet and drops the SRV Mass Effect style ;) Besides that they can sell obvious paintjobs/customizations with ARX and maybe a small hoverbike. I think it is a low investment development which may help to find out how many commanders would be willing to pay for additional rooms in the ship.
