Ships Want to fight back against gankers? Use this melee FDL build!

Ship build is here. Tactics are described in the video.

TL,DW? Flight assist off + directional thruster control + 4 pips to SYS + all plasma + intentional ramming = shredded "meta" FDLs (the kind favored by PVPers).

For discussion: should Frontier enable the option to see a leading target reticle when you're not using projectile weapons (it's not visible using lasers & railguns)? Not having it leaves you at a disadvantage since the indicator gives you valuable vector information.

Nice video!

The ramming does equal damage to both your shields and theirs, correct? So I assume you make it work in your favor by going in more heavily shielded than they are. The slots&energy that you spend on extra shields; what are they spending it on? (ie what's the PvP (non-melee) meta, relative to your approach?)

It seems that he has more focus on absolute shield value instead of resists so he would have advantage against resist heavy builds for ramming damage. Also if he is better at pip management during ramming (as there was some comment on the video) he may get the opponents in situations when they do not have 4 pips to sys during the ram. Otherwise FDL vs FDL there probably is not that much weight difference to make much impact on the ramming outcome (even though that build is about as heavy as an FDL can be).

Thanks! I'm not exactly sure about the ramming mechanics other than it uses a combination of raw shield strength w/pips (resists don't count), armor, and possibly speed. The FDL meta is to either use a prismatic with shield cell banks (two of them) or a biweave shield with armor underneath. This build sacrifices a little potential shield recovery (in the form of banks) for more shield up front while having the armor of a hybrid biweave.
