Want to see the difference between a trailer planet and the in-game version?

I don't have to, I play the game. Those pics are of two completely different planet types and atmospheres. Wish people would stop posting this rubbish. Want to know what Odyssey looks like, take a look at the Great Big Odyssey screen Shot thread, or play the game.

Happy to trot these out every time someone pretends that blue sky, icy worlds like in the pre-alpha trailers don't exist in game.

Love the inane obsession with blue skies and snow though. As if that's somehow not something we can see every winter by looking out of the window; Odyssey has way more spectacular vistas than this. People need to stop whining and just go play the game if all they want is fantastic looking planets. I've seen countless, both airless and otherwise.

Thats nice. I just completed a mission on an ice planet, and lucky for me it was on the night side. I wish i had a day mission to see the actual ice models.

The whole planet is so unique. I love it. It's only icy on its ice caps, by the way. The rest of it is rocky and filled with ridged valleys and mountains. There's a resort in the middle of a valey surrounded by blue, starry skies and mountain ranges. It's a great planet.

An airless one I found last night. They're not all flat and grey. But, yanno... I imagine most rocky airless planets are in real life...

I think EDO planets are so much more interesting than Horizons. I don't recall any planets in Horizons blowing me away with how they looked.
I believe there's a combination of rosy retrospection and sheep following the crowd at the moment.

It's quite fascinating how many of the threads posts and memes come from people who say something along the lines of "in the videos I've seen", which apparently trump going out and checking for themselves. Or in this case the reddit poster who created this particular image said "I've listened to the video of Drew Wagar, where he talks about his opinion about Odyssey and once I knew that the far to early release of Odyssey is to blame on the CEOs and investors I just became angry".

Amazing.

I think there's some credence to the claim that EDO planets can be quite flat and certainly I've yet to see a 20km mountain (not sure they exist in EDH either). Some are very flat. But... I expect that. But even most of these flat planets aren't featureless. Some are still beautiful. Most have some topographical features of some kind.

The problem is specific "tourist spot" locations don't look the same. Oh well.

Where is that blue sky you are talking about?
All I see is a slight tint

It's the same as this:

I just colour picked in MS paint and it's blue. Not exactly the same shade, no. But it's blue. If you want, you can go and find a planet with that exact shade of blue. If that's what you need in order to... I don't know. What do the people who are complaining about this need? Sounds like they want to play the game on a single planet that looks like that one?

Bizarre thing to get hung up on.

If those are truly supposed to be the same planet... then the trailer is complete false advertising.

I can’t find planets with actual atmospheres that look anything like what is shown in that picture... what’s being called an atmosphere looks to me like a flashlight shining through colored fog. Even the pictures the other person posted in this thread of an ice planet with an atmosphere looks nothing close to the quality of the trailer, in my opinion. If planets like the trailer planets do exist but they are one in a million, the trailers shouldn’t represent them so prominently as the experience a player should expect in the game.

The trailer should represent the reality of the game which, in my opinion, is boring brown planets, jarringly terrible pop-in of textures, constant terrain morphing, and flashlights shining through colored fog. Again, this is my opinion. My expectations were higher based on previous versions of the game, so I suppose in this modern era of gaming, it’s my fault for holding the company to a certain standard.

Well it's not super blue, but here's the first planed I landed on. Don't mind the aliasing and low quality texture, I'm playing on a 10 years old GPU.

People keep comparing planets that were unique or beautiful in some way in Hoziron to what they became in Odyssey, and while I can understand that having all your bookmarks now pointing to unremarkable planets is disappointing, the comparison is unfair.

yea, you caught me. i changed everyone's clients to screw up the gamma and lighting. trash vr completely. ruin ui/ux on various pages. turn off occlusion culling and deoptimized the shaders. i also shuffled the graphics pipeline so even if culling is turned back on it won't work fully. i added some memory leaks so texture lod's get pushed down from high quality randomly. i also left a ton of bugs in the game that were identified in the alpha. i ensured a bunch of connectivity issues would occur so people couldn't play for the first few days as well as hobbled the steam client so people couldn't even update to launch the game. i also left the new foot content with mechanics that require a bunch of slow tedium weapon changes that nobody likes, an exploration mechanic that consists of staring at something for a minute and almost no variety of the basic stuff you do in the tutorial. i even added the inability for foot npcs to deal with players in ships and left them with a near terminator like combat archetype that sees thru walls and darkness for fun... since you won't be interacting with them in much of any other way than hostile or indifferent.

you discovered my conspiracy. all my hard work for nothing... if it weren't for you kids and that annoying dog

As i was saying all along, there is a deliberate campaign here, steam and reddit, to sabotage Odyssey.
They started with Review bombing, and now continue with their campaign in order to misslead people in to posting negative reviews.

Oh yes, that's right. It's been such an effective campaign that even David Braben was tricked by the claims of bugs and poor performance, into writing a public apology. All those people posting negative reviews were obviously misled as well. They were too stupid to think for themselves or play and experience the game they purchased, so fooling them was easy.
