WARNING!!!!! do NOT....

....press the Boost button inside a space station. Your'e guaranteed to total your ship. Slammed my Viper into mhe landing pad.... after pressing the vertical thruster (uhum..Booster) button. Well that's lesson learned....maybe I shouldn't play when too tired.

Meh, I do it all the time .
The trick is setting your engine to min and keeping the landing gears down.
When you get the hang of it you can buzz in from 3 km away to landing within 10 secs

Someone did that too me I think, was sat in my sidey on the landing pad plotting my next route when a ship plows into me at face melting speed. My death cam was my wreckage bouncing round the inside of the station like loose change in a washing machine. Quite funny in a sidey, had it been a cobra or something maybe not so much :( I always dock down to hangar now just in case.

Put all pips to shields on approach (and while in the station). You get two effects: the obvious one (your shields can take more damage), and your maximum speed is lower so you have less momentum to do damage with.

I once rammed a Cobra entering a station with my puny Sidewinder because my thumb slipped off the thrust hat and hit boost. We both survived.

Yeah, I was showing off my piloting skills to my dad who also played the original...

'Is it hard to control the ship.' he asked.

'Nah, it's pretty easy.' I replied, hitting the boost button to do some fancy pilotting inside the docking cylinder.

'I see.....' he said as my hauler filled with crop harvesters collided with the back end of the station and exploded.

i pressed eject all cargo on my last trade run yesterday and ejected 100 tons of coffee into Aulin, yay, was too tired as well, but it was damn funny, especially receiving 100 messages from authority about 150cr fine each and seeing all that cloud of "coffee" was very warm heartening ;)

How am I supposed to survive without boost abuse in a station? My Cobra departure procedure includes, in order, launch, retracting gears while aligning with the exit using vertical thrust and roll, all power diverted to the engine, and then max power forward and boost like there's no tomorrow :D

Don't worry, everyone's done it at some point or other. :D

So I used to have boost mapped to the press the mini-joystick on the CH Throttle, which normally controls lateral thrust, and toggle head look on Down on the front 4-way switch, with rudder on the left and right of that switch. Only I kept toggling headlook by mistake when using rudder for fine aim in dogfights and then headlooking somewhere useless trying to lateral thrust, so I swapped headlook and boost. That was a mistake. My muscle memory kept trying to toggle headlook at the most inopportune times, so I totalled two ships by boosting into them, and lost one expensive cargo. Lesson learned, the controls are now on completely different buttons.

I did the same on a viper yesterday. Miraculously I managed to make it out the door at full pelt, with only one or two bounces. :D

But boosting out of the station is way too much fun! I might need to get it out of my system as I intend to start the final release in Ironman mode so that'll be off the cards then.

Lol this is exactly my procedure! Full upwards thrust, full forward thrust, mash disengage landing gear and hope that I can rotate with the dock before I get there :D

I confess: I do wait until I am aligned before boosting. I am not yet elite :(

(also: never not full throttle on entering the docking slot!)

Done the boost in station thing yesterday. Managed to hit the eject all cargo button today. Massive fine. I put it onto the mouse button because I don't use the mouse.

My latest effort isn't quite my fault.

I was docking when someone came to the door. I thought I'd paused it. All I know is that I have to wait an hour before they'll let me into the station. I just hope people don't thinking I'm parking. I'm not. They just won't let me in. :(
