my bet is that the thargoids are starting to poison stars or space, to damage our ship, just like we did to them with the mycoid virus. would be a fitting revenge and make us an even easier target to kill

I won't lie, I had this thought too. However, the variety of instances this has happened, it's hard to say. Given how Fdev responded, I have to wonder what exactly is going on.
Possibly, heat would have been lowering at the time as I was flying away from the star. I did not notice the temperature but I am pretty sure it was not as high as 125%.
I have had this on many occasion now, whilst fighting in CG goals, flying straight and Level through systems, whilst fighting thargoids and this latest one was the only time that I have lost cargo, although I think it may be the only time that I have been carrying any cargo.
Linked to the Thargoids? I am unsure, the first few times was before I tried to fight one although I did go get a hyperdiction when they first appeared.
