Warning: Violence at Sag A*

Just carry on folks.

I hate the words "fully kitted out" but that is just me.

All play in the manner you want to... But a few silly - and I mean a "tiny minority" fools who seek just to ruin other peoples enjoyment should not be able to ruin our majority of fun.

I for one will go OUT IN THE VOID "un kitted" is that a word :p

I salute the new surge of armed explorers - BUT I will not be one of them.

If you see me in the void, wave but don't fly to close in case I am asleep but NOT armed :)

These are the correct words. :) By carrying on and continuing, the good people of the game will show resolve and courage.

Myself, if I do continue out there on an expedition, and given all I've said in the past on the subject, I may or may not have weapons. You'll just have to wait and see. ;)

Well said, sir.

For me, an Exploring ship should have max range. One day it might get you somewhere you otherwise wouldn't have got to. That's how I want to play exploring.

If I meet another of those charming fellows, which is vanishingly unlikely other than at major tourist spots, I'll try to escape, and if I don't I'll shake my head sadly, shrug my shoulders, and carry on playing.

And if I meet Thargoids I'll say COOL!!!! and head back in a different ship, with ALL THE GUNS.

I have been interdicted by an NPC ANACONDA in MAIA System

Maia is nearly as big a tourist hotspot as Sgr A*. One of the nearest Black holes to inhabited space, and in the Pleiades.

My first exploring trip was to the Pleiades, because one of my earliest astronomy-related memories is of trying to count the stars in them (are there seven? or more?) then looking at them through binoculars. Wow!

Fly safe. However you should choose to do it.

Quoted for truth!
.
If I meet any hostile players out there, they can eat my rubber whilst I burn dust!

I don't understand how people defend someone just sitting around with the sole purpose of hurting other players, there is no other gain from the situation.
And no, it isn't 'giving explorers a risk' or similar, because the only risk is "If someone wants to do nothing else then hurt people who have been putting in a lot of work" that's it, and should such people really be encouraged? not in my opinion, just like you don't encourage people to go around and punch stab and generally people, in fact they are punished for such. And "This is a game" does not even remotely justify allowing behavior like that.

Does that mean there shouldn't be more dangers for explorers? of course not, but they should make sense, supernova's what have you, gravity distortion damage, aliens!, that sort of thing, not "Because someone decided to hurt others"

At first when this happened I wasnt particularly happy, but after a while I realised it was an inevitable consequence of the game mechanics, and I am actually glad it has happened. It has added depth and a greater story. Nutcase goes to SagA, Vigilantes go to SagA to remove nutcase. lets face it, it happens in the real world on a daily basis. Will it stop me exploring? no, Will it mean when I get back th next time I got out I will be armed? probably, but all this to me is immersive gaming, action and consequence, and long may it remain.

False I have been exploring for some few weeks now, in my fully kitted Asp...I am ready for whatever comes my way...I am fully armed...yet, I can jump up to 29.88 ly at a time...

2 beam lasers, 1 burst laser, 1 mining, 2 med multi cannons and a bad ass 5A shield with a 29.88 ly jump range hardly qualifies as "out of luck". Problem is that many players want their cake and eat it too, specially solo players...there is cost in decision making...and I like that...

Funny thing is that you could have gotten killed by an Elite NPC Conda in Solo the same...and then you wouldn't have a place to rant to...

Making a flight with no insurance, no shield, no weapons and pretend that you are ENTITLED to be safe just because your jump range is more important than the precaution, planning and responsibility every other players took, is preposterous...

I'll even say more...forget the shooter at Sag A*...I think that between the extensive lore of Elite, the extensive information that the devs have put out and the recent events involving a "singing artifact from who knows where" should be worrying material for all of us, because we know they are coming, that's for sure....we don't know when...but they'll be here...most likely without warning...and chances are that is we, the explorers, the first target in the line...

We should stop the reckless, naive approach...exploration is bound to be dangerous sooner or later...

That's what you are missing...decision making...cant have it all at the same time...chose what's more important to you...your jump range or getting back in one piece....

I've got to learn how to spec out my ship like that. I've been sacrificing fire power for jump range.

I don't mind the random encounter with the NPC pirates (last time I was on, I kept getting interdicted when I was on my way to dock at a station) I just understand why this would be an issue for some people. Also, there are times when I'm exploring, and no one is around. Us explorers choose to be isolated from the conflict and gather data. What it feels like; it's like being in high school again and being part of the astronomy club, but then getting harassed and our teeth knocked in by the football team. When we report it, they say that we need to toughen up and take the beatings.

Aaaand there's another one...

I made this post earlier just for folks like you : https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=138836&page=4&p=2124765&viewfull=1#post2124765

Give people guns and no rules and yeah its every commander for him/herself. Open is PvP and will always be PvP. If you have friends you will wing up and kill other groups of friends. The game is designed entirely in open around PvP. I cant see any other reason for design decisions such as basically a small slap on the wrist for murdering someone vs a massive fine If you dock at a station with a jar of Marmite on board.

In Open, every other player is automatically "THE ENEMY" and will remain that way until a) you have killed them b) they have killed you. If you wander in open with your head in the clouds you will be smeared across the stars like streaky bacon hitting a wall at a substantial speed. I play in Mobius 90^ of the time and wander in open in a cheap ship just for laughs when I am bored. Its better if you have little to lose. If you have a massive investment in time, money and/or effort and still play open then I say you have balls as big as a pair of Class 1's and I o7 you.
