There are no contacts in range at ANY station I go to. I have rebooted, logged out then in, self destructed and asphyxiated myself.
This game is unbelievably frustrating. The targeting does not work, scanning does not work, now this no contacts horse crap.
This is a an ABSOLUTE WASTE of $60.

Sounds to me like you're doing something wrong. The learning curve for this game can be vertical at times.
Presumably you've had to at least leave a station in order to take off - do you seriously have no contacts there?
Check your power management settings in the right hand panel and make sure your sensors are turned on.

You did do the tutorials and training missions, didn't you?

And - what do you mean by "contacts in range"? Which kind of contacts, and in range for what?
As for targeting and scanning - since it works for everyone else, it would be very helpful if you told us what you're doing, what you expect as an outcome and what happens instead. Screenshots also tend to help a lot.

OP, can you provide more details? Are you trying to complete a mission? What are the specifics of the mission if you are? What system are you in? We will help.

I have done several courier missions, enough to buy an Eagle and start some bounty hunting (which is what I want to do), but every time I log in something is not working. First the controls flipped to inverted, then back, then the FSD would not engage, then during my first BH mission I could not target the pirate. He scanned me, but I could not scan him and then target him. (He interdicted next from Supercruise). No this “No contacts in range” b.s.
Why would the sensors be off? I have not messed with them!!!!
Every time I log on some crap has changed. This is RIDICULOUS!!!
I should have bought Star Citizen.

lol, if your struggling playing ED don't bother playing Star Citizen

There's alot to learn with this game.

You couldn't engage your fsd, was it in cooldown, were you mass locked by a station or larger ship, were your hardpoints, scoop or landing gear deployed?

When I logged out last, several days ago, everything was working FINE! No sensors off, everything was tip top.
Today, “no contacts in range”. I HIT a station and still nothing. Why would the sensors turn off? I want my money back.

Is your senors damaged? They can be targeted by enemies. Is your senors switched on? Has your senors been powered down because there's not enough power in your power plant.
Also, are you sure your using them right?

Hi Texas, are you on a PC or console?

The FSD will not engage if you are "mass locked" which means in close proximity to a massive object like a station or an asteroid ring.

If you want to see if a pirate is "wanted" you can look on menu 1, select him, and then in the lower left hand corner of your HUD you will see him. If he is not in line of sight, it won't give you any details. Once he is in line of sight, it takes a second to process and it will let you know if he is wanted.

If you want to bounty hunt there are two locations to go to.

1) The navigation beacon near populated system stars. You can find it on the menu 1 system navigation panel.
2) Resource extraction zones. These are found in planet rings. As a starter, pick a low res zone, and wait for the cops to start shooting a target. Then pile on after you have verified the target is wanted and kill the target.

If you have more specific questions we can help.

OP, if you don't have any contacts, then maybe there's just no-one there. Yes, the game has bugs, but keep in mind, you are in a scale replica of the Milky Way. It's a big galaxy.

Also, if the only comments you have about the game are criticisms, why create a forums account?

"I don't understand this game so it's a bad game, I wasted money because I don't understand this game!!"

Look, it's a complicated game, it takes patience and a desire to learn it. Get on the horn and ask your fellow pilots for help, there's no shame in it, we've all been there. You paid the 60 bucks, ask for help..

My guess? The modules aren't set up right. Go to the right panel under "modules". There's help videos on Youtube.. for pretty much anything related to Elite..

All the early ships need everything; more power, more distributor, more speed, stronger guns etc etc etc. You have to learn to manage your ship, until you can afford to upgrade your ship's modules and engineer them, then it's more of the same while you work for the ship(s) you ultimately want. It's how the game is set up..
