Watched a review of star citizen 3.0 teaser, and it made me realise something

In almost every video I've seen of SC, when showing off new features or details, it gets compared to NMS, or stated as completely new and revolutionary, and the fans seem to get wowed by stuff that is commonplace in E: D.
Stuff like planetary landing doesn't even seem all that advanced next to what E: D can do, yet the applause they get for demonstrating that feature...

It seems as though most SC fans either don't know E: D exists, or actively avoid acknowledging it's existence.

Is E: D's exposure really that small?

What am I missing?

They're screaming because SC is showing everything Elite is missing for now.

I screamed as well to the Gamescom demo, it was too damn awesome. The huge base, atmospheric approach, exploring a wrecked ship (they really nailed the atmosphere inside it).

Also everything just looks better (the FSD just look incredible).

Judging from the frantic clapping, and wild, over the top cheering at the least little thing SC shows at a demonstration (OMOMGOMG! LOOK! IT'S A SPACESHIP AND ITS....WEAVING BETWEEN A COUPLE ASTEROIDS!!!!), I sort of picture the average SC fan as being roughly the same intellect as all the "golf" fans that Happy Gilmore brought into the sport. Or the attendees of a Donald Trump convention.

You said it, they're already SC fans, and just like NMS fans only after release they'll truly be able to judge both games.

Hey, sorry for enjoying a game presentation. Didn't you smile when FD announced the planetary approach with the SRV ?

Star Citizen backers pay megabucks for ships in a game that doesn't yet exist. Goons.

SC backers are a prime example of why kickstarter, early access and pre-order are all bad business models in the end (for customers).
Pay upon delivery, people. That's how we used to do it. (Yes, I know E:D was a kickstarter, but one decent example doesn't prove a good business model as a whole).

The 3.0 demo did look awesome and included a LOT of stuff not available in ED, such as NPCs you can interact with, ships/stations you can walk around in, ability to float around in an EV suit, first person shooting, the ability to fly with friends etc. etc. I'm not an SC backer or player, but it DID look awesome. I play ED and hope the FD takes a bit of inspiration from what SC is trying to do. I can't wait for planets with atmospheres and the ability walk around ships, stations and planets, for example.

Same here. Not a backer, just a really impressed gamer. I just hope Elite will come at least close to what SC already showed !

Have you folks seen their galactic map on their website? Should check it out. Kinda wish our system maps were more like that. Make sure to double click on the jump gates(wormholes..).

Wasn't aware of their map ! Really really cool !

All that sounds like an invitation for a host of loading screens and hexagons.

No thanks.

Just earlier today, I was lamenting to myself about how lame the mission board is when it takes 28 seconds of server transaction to load all the faces. I don't give a rat's riff what my mission giver looks like, I just want to see what missions are available.

ED is it's own showcase. We have a game to talk about, and you don't need four DirectX 14 compatible NVidia GTX 18970s in dual SLI-SLI mode to run it, either.

It would bloody well want to look better and have many of the things yet to come to E: D, given the budget they have to work with.....

SC looks to be making the Campaign Style Mode albeit as Multiplayer COOP but seriously, we play these Missions on just 1 night and then move away from it. There's no point in the cost of this stuff. ED has done it right but only needs the added content we have asked for 2 yrs: Interactions with players & NPC; Military Roles; Wars around Docks/Bases; more life...
SC will fail once it's out as it's based on hype and cinematics but lacks in a decent flight mechanic. The one thing it has is got good is the 3D HUD Map that can zoom in and plot courses. Honestly the FSD does NOT impress me.

The SC fans also screamed when they saw an animation of a door opening and a ladder descending.
