Engineers Ways to get "Modified Embedded Firmware"...

I greet you, dear commanders,
I am facing a problem which I obviously do not get ahead without help ...
What does one do when one is unable to raid Surface Settlements, especially those with the description
"Security ++", and has just no luck on the mission boards, but needs mandatory two units modified embedded firmware ...

Has such a Commander now simply no chance or is there another way to get this firmware?

It would be so that I then, only because a single ingredient that I can not get, because I play alone to 100%, will have to abandon a Grade 5 Mod for my Class4 Mcs.
This can not be true... [sad]

I've only ever found it in signal sources. The zero threat ones with wrecks in. If you find a data beacon and target it will be scanned (as long as you are facing it). It may contain one of several different types of data. If you are lucky it will be the firmware you are looking for. I have to say though that it is rare to find a data beacon and rarer for it to have the modified firmware, so it is a real grind.

If anyone knows a better way to find it I am all ears.

Hullo hullo!

Modified Embedded Firmware can be found in any Medium or High security Large (+++) land settlements. 100% guaranteed in groups of 1 or sometimes more, as far as I can tell.

The way to get it is simple: You need to scan all of the data points in the base. These can be anywhere between 3 to 6 nodes and have a timed interface window before they reset. A good method I've found is to activate the first one I see and read the total number of points present on the base. Then go around searching for them all while allowing the timer to count down and end. When I find all of the nodes (and the debug camera works wonders for this purpose, by the way) I go around and quickly scan each one. I use landmarks like the core data point (huge green beam of light pointing into the sky) to "map" the data point locations relative to these landmarks. This makes remembering their locations quite straight forward.

Scanning the core data point itself will also net you between 400-700k credits. A nice little bonus for your efforts.

You may have already known all of this but being thorough is a bit of a monkey on my shoulder. To directly address and answer your question I think the most significant aspect of "base raids" is the fact that 99% of the time, these data points are all marked as PUBLIC. Which means you can go in there and scan the points without firing a single plasma repeater shot. Every time you scan one of them, the sirens all go crazy saying an intruder has been detected, but it's all nonsense. Don't be afraid!

The trick is to find the right settlements, I think. Jurisdiction and controlling faction play a huge role. Some bases give a trespass warning as soon as you approach the facility in your SRV. Others let you go anywhere at any time. Other still have a single small red region that creates a no trespass zone in a very small area of the base. Remember that approaching most land settlements in your ship will yield a trespass warning. You may get a warning in your ship, but be permitted to enter in an SRV.

Good luck!

Hi, I feel your pain.
I don't do the settlements either, as I really don't enjoy them.
So far I've collected 6 from missions and Encoded USS, but they are VERY rare, so it really comes down to time.
I'm sure someone more knowledgeable than me may be able to tell you the factors involved to get them to spawn. (For example system state, economy type etc.)

I've found the best thing to do is make a list of all the rare stuff you might need, and collect it whenever a mission etc comes up.
At the beginning I would concentrate on one item at a time, and get frustrated after hours of looking for it. Now as I'm looking for several at once, I tend to find at least something each time I play.
For example, to date I'd only ever found 3 imperial shielding, last night while doing a salvage mission I found 13 in 30 minutes...

The other thing is (I believe), spawn rates are increasing in the next patch, as well as the amount you find at once. Hopefully this includes data as well as metals.

Good luck in your search Commander, you'll get them...

Thanks for the advice. Regrettably, nothing I did not already know.
FD has so far expressed only on the metals on the surface of planets but not regarding other resources.
I fear that they will not continue to adjust the data in terms of spawn rate.

I have for now a rank 4 mod installed and will lay the rank 5 version until further on ice.
I now have to cope with the reduced range.[SUB][/SUB]

i have yet to find a high security installation that doesn't have a trespass perimeter that will get you shot at even before you get close to the installation.. Is there a special node we must make a beeline to first and scan that will deactivate this perimter??

and if you do manage to find one, and all the access points and have enough time in between each one to scan the next and if you manage to scan all of them, then there might be a slim chance you will get some M.E.F

I got 4 MEF out of 10 High security +++ settlements, (the last 2) I never had any luck at anything else, tried mediums or lower rated highs and never got anything but its probably just RNGesus not giving him his divine blessing.

Just been in jameson memorial logging in and out, if you get friendly with ltt 4487 they give them as mission rewards. Grinding up now.

They wouldn't be high security if they just let you waltz in, just trash the skimmers from orbit land and learn the relay route for the 5 ish data points and off you go :p

Wing up ! use dumb fire missiles from range to decimate the base, Go it alone with a ship built for the job https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npRVZKyvcws

Play the game, don't grind. Use the tools you have to your advantage ! Its not easy, There is no "I Win" button, you want the best.... go work for it :)

Will be on over the weekend, happy to wing in and take out the defences for you, Oh and if you wing up YOU BOTH get to scan the data points and BOTH can get all the goodies :)

What about the endless stream of NPC ships that come with every single High Sec. base I've found? All except for 1 in about 15 others or so I've scouted, have non-stop spawning of NPCs. There are always ships in orbit so need to take them out at first - or they WILL snipe you during a raid. But EVERYTIME and every base but that one, has had endless spamming of NPCs. So once I got halfway through the data points, dodging constant bombardment - only to get blasted when I had to momentarily stop to scan a data point. It's damn near impossible to do High Sec. without a wingman in orbit to watch for ships.

Yeah I didn't find a good way to deal with those to be honest, I check high security bases in systems I go to - if they have NPC ships defending I just leave it as like many others I couldn't find a way to get them to stop spawning. Sorry no advice for that one :( I managed one while I was getting shot but it was down to pure luck to be honest, not a concerted plan or any sort of skill.

Video or it didn't happen. Raided 7 High-Sec [+++] bases without a single drop, quit playing ever since.

Grind equals to the repetition of a mechanic to obtain something... Perhaps you don't mind your boss tossing a dice to determine your month's salary but I do cringe deeply.

Anybody got a Modified Embedded firmware by missions please ? i'd like to know where because raiding bases drive me crazy (héhé see the joke here ? ok...)

Yes, i had 4 without raiding a single base, from missions/USS.
But chances are incredibly low... only 4 of them since 2.1 release, and i spent a lot of time doing missions, all those modular terminals etc...
At least 2 of them were missions from jameson memorial.
