We can now use the external camera with the docking computer

I know, most of you are way too macho to use a docking computer, so this little upgrade in 2.1 / 1.6 was a surprise to me. I couldn't find any other threads about it.

Previously, activating the docking computer disabled all your flight controls... which meant you couldn't activate the external camera and, if you did manage somehow to turn it on, you couldn't control the view you got.

Now, you can. So, for all you macho types, there's now a reason to maybe sometimes fit a DC: you can now take external videos of your ship as it flies around and manoeuvres in to land.

I'd LOVE to fit one in......

......but now I need to fit some cargo on my FDL, retrieval limpet, cargo hatch limpet for hostage missions, extra hull to survive the monster NPC, etc.....

Nice! Never used the docking computer, but always wanted to see the craft from outside and see the ship's details when flying, with light sources & shadows moving about, and see the ship's thrusters in action as it manoeuvres. This is a nice step in the right direction.

(but we really want camera drones!)

That's brilliant!

On a side note - after a huge repair bill I always use the DC for my Clipper these days. Not because I can't dock manually, but because I'm a coward. And lazy. And maybe a coward...

Weird, it worked the first time I tried it... second time, the camera activated OK, but I couldn't control it. Might have something to do with the timing.

I'm on mouse+keyboard, if it makes a difference.

In researching the forum for other threads on the topic, I notice the people over on the Xbox subforum are all excited about being able to use the external camera while on a landing pad now; apparently, they couldn't before.

Does the docking computer still cheat? (can ram other ships with >100m/s without drawing aggro from the station)
I ran the DC in Beta and never had any issues with speeding or ramming. If you are over 100 m/s there is no speeding prompt and I've had the DC use boost over 400 m/s without issues.
