We do not want our Paintjobs "closer" to what they looked like...

I checked out some of the other Fleet Carrier paints yesterday to see if they're as messed up as two particular ones I own.

Turns out that every one of those flag inspired paint combinations is completely borked.

That can't be right. They look like a layer of sorts is missing - where there should be bright white it's now grey/dark. Some weren't pretty to begin with but my word there awful now.

The exhaust notes and landing pad colours don't look right either, like a bloom issue but can't tell myself. Just lost their intensity.

It's almost funny how my free Arx are piling up (not from playing onfoot stuff of course as that's missing still, because why not), whereas the stuff I could afford looks so ugly now I will pass, while the new EDO is so expensive that it'll take me months to afford a single average looking skin for one gun.

That's really not how to do it Frontier, but you've cured me at least from my MTX addiction at least so that's something.

They added physical-based rendering to the renderer. I don't know if the shaders are actually correct or not, but now the renderer takes into account the physical "Material" of things, so the colors do get all distorted, which is intentional to make it look like a real material.
Well, they failed miserably, it doesn't look any more real, it just looks worse on all surfaces, also the paints in my pics are supposed to be chrome and they are not any more and again they still do not look any closer to real material, unless imperial ships are made of rubber by FDev idea.

Having Physical Based Rendering in the mix shouldn't be a problem, by itself. You can mix shaders in the same scene. The problem is more likely that these skins are using the new shaders without being adjusted accordingly, or the old shaders are being used but without being tuned to match the new shaders for the same scenes. It's clear that the renderer itself underwent significant changes, including the increased contrast.

FDev has been a little "all over the place" in terms of how they set their white and black levels in the skins already, and it looks like the new shaders probably expect deeper black and white levels than what is defined in the old skins. Of course I could be wrong, but looking at the existing skins, black looks more like graphite now, most colors are significantly darker, and white comes off as a dull grey.

It's entirely fixable, but it might be a process of going through and updating each skin. Or, it might require a set of separate shaders that are tuned to use the old textures accordingly. Either way it's probably going to take some effort on their side, and they're probably busy putting out more critical fires at the moment. That makes sense, but this is still important when you consider that people paid for access to these specifically (and many of them date back before ARX, when we paid for them directly).

And anything emissive seems entirely gone. But the ELW next to Mitterand's appears to be a Class B star now, so there is that! ;)

Oh, I thought they fixed that? Visited the place prior to the latest couple of patches and my eyes, it burned so bad

Don't know if they did, I don't have EDO yet (but I know that I'll be buying it, just sitting on my wallet out of pure, idiotic, mule-headed stubbornness right now), but I do remember seeing it and shaking my head in wonder. Give it time. I know I am. A LOT of time if I have to :)

In fairness I haven't come across overexposed planets since they confirmed it to be fixed, so hopefully that also covered that system.

I'm honestly so hacked off at how they miss-managed this I went out and bought NMS yesterday in protest! My money will now go to people who deserve it, not to people who don't.
What, Hello Games who told absolute flat-out lies about their game right up to its release date and then went full radio silence for the best part of six months? Mkay.

If Frontier take their mammoth budget and superior team numbers and crunch for 6 months to produce all that they have led the community to believe was coming.. continue to give the game love, restore everyone's faith and show signs they'll bring about what they said they would in the kickstarter then yeah.. after the first 6 months of them going in that direction I will support them financially again. They've burned their goodwill that i was paying them for before. Also, give us our paintjobs back, the ones we payed for! The current versions aren't what i gave them money for. Not even the same colour and if they were that colour at time of purchase I wouldn't have bought half of them.

They turned it around and made good on all those claims and i reward them for it.. will do the same for Frontier if they turn it back around
But you said your money will now go to people 'who deserve it', which seems like you've prejudged the issue somewhat. I mean you're drawing a comparison between something that you feel Hello Games did (past tense)with something that we're months away from FDev being able to demonstrate whether they have done or not. Just seems a bit weird, especially since the whole 'turning it around' thing with Hello Games seems to absolve them of blatantly lying in the first place in your mind. And make no mistake about it, they did lie, quite explicitly and on several occasions.

And so have Fdev..and yes of course I've prejudged it based on everything they have done in the past. i was putting up with it before but no longer until they fix it. Never gave Hello Games a cent before now, but they deserve for how they turned it around. Fdev have had years of letting us down and have not turned it around, if they do in 6 months time then they can have my custom again, not before.

I used to take the "if Frontier turn things around I will continue spending money on their cosmetics" approach all too often but that ship has truly sailed for me now.

My Arx purchasing habit was getting out of hand anyways so I'm using this debacle as a lesson truly learned and to change my ways - always felt a little wrong to spend so much money on overpriced yet comparatively (vs various other games in my library) low effort/quality content, but it was fine because I enjoyed the looks of my ships as a result - since I can no longer do that to the same extent as I could in EDH my money is best spent elsewhere from now on in. Thankfully barely any of the new items tickle my fancy anyways - seems they're mostly geared towards Fortnite players now.

Yup, don't wanna buy something unappealing, and if I do buy it as is.. how do i know they aren't gonna change the lighting in 6 months anyway! But this is more about a protest, was lied to and quite frankly insulted by the poor quality of the product and the contempt shown to the consumer so screw them. A once loyal customer will now spend their extra cash elsewhere, if they turn it around good, I'll re-open my wallet to them. Only thing they understand these days because they sure as hell don't understand integrity anymore!
