Good luck getting it too, seriously... we do need a bigger range of space-politics in the game. It's a very capitalist universe out there right now.
That is the only way developers can create such games as this. They just take the paradigms of our world and extrapolate them to a bigger environment. A game is a game because it has challenges in it. For most people that just means capitalism, the rat race in which we all participate in a game of one-upmanship.
We compete for jobs and try to rise on a social status ladder by getting raises and move to better neighborhoods, into better houses and drive bigger cars, then use the to shop in more expensive supermarkets. And all that through and based on theories of open market capitalism.
It is sickening alright. But we lack the imagination to do it another way, hence we get space sims. All we do is play 'Capitalism In Space'. Since communism never truly existed on Earth apart from a few unknown episodes in human history where people attempted the thing, all we know is communist dictatorships.
It is easy enough to declare a planetary system a communist regime and then you can take your pick whatever that truly means. I do see that there is this notion among many Russians today to glorify the good old days. I know a Romanian who was barely alive when the Wall fell, who plays with the thought that it was all great. The reason he thinks it is because things were clearer then, in the way that when you have few choices and are told what, when and why to do it and keep your mouth shut, you do not truly have to think for yourself. And so you get a longing to a bad lifestyle because people quickly forget how bad it was. Maybe the OP is one of them.
Capitalism didn't 'win' at the end of the cold war and it is just a bankrupt climate destroying system as communism was. In any case, within ED, what would it actually mean in a universe of capitalism, e.g. for trade? Fixed prices all year through? And when some imported good gets relatively scarce, the communist leadership experiences civil unrest?
Or would you have worlds populated by some Hippy culture?

And what would that do to a commodities market. Maybe most drugs would be legal because unfortunately people think that being a hippy is to be a stoner and associate drugs with all that. It is much more but how would you code that into the game as it is?
You can't code what you do not know, so if capitalism is all we know by lack of understanding what the world is for, why we are here at all and behave like dutiful cogs in the machine, what different system can you imagine?
