We really need Chinese!!!!!We really just need Chinese!!!!!

I come from China, a very ordinary Chinese, in a few years ago when I saw the game, I feel I really love this game, but was due to the language barrier, I never start, I yearned for the day I will update the Chinese version of the official simplified, but I have to wait now, but still no Chinese version, every time you want to start, because language let me give up this idea, because my English is really bad, including the posting word I use translation software to translate it. However, the game is not available for the translation software, in Chinese, a lot of people like me love the game, but because of the language barrier to abandon the purchase, a lot of the time we stop to buy the game is not the price, but because of language barriers, cultural differences, as I saw in the steam platform so, there are many Chinese in writing to the game, they are not because the game is poor, but they really want to own Chinese version, to attract your attention by a large number of poor, hope you can develop a Chinese version, so I really hope you can pay attention to this post, with simplified Chinese in the game, do you believe that absolutely can develop a larger market in Chinese, like PUBG, in Chinese hot moment. Thank you very much!!! We really just need Chinese!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I second this opinion. Chinese are the Romulan and Vulcan of the Elite universe. We need the Chinese language and writings for making puzzles and enigmas that westerners can try to solve, and learn Chinese at the same time.

The Bubble is like Taiwan, and China is the Galaxy. So... where is the Chinese language!?

And we want Chinese Kung-Fu schools in Elite.

Now that Tencent has invested in Frontier, there might be more incentive to put it in the dev schedule.

My sentiments exactly. I am pretty sure that that was half the reason for the Tencent investment. I wonder if it was conditional on Frontier deepening the game play? Could be another reason for the development of 3.X.

Not just for China but the whole Asian market. It would give Frontier another ED sales boost.

Have you guys ever played survival games? I've seen Ark and Conan Exiles servers, AT LEAST, fall victim to massive exploitation and outright hacks. And the common element is that the culprits all speak in moon runes. I hope FD anticheats would be up to the task, but at least they can't build up in Elite the way they always did to kill Ark servers. And a LOT of official Ark servers fell victim to this.

I mean... that's not a hard-no, actually. If people actually want to play the game fair, no big.

I would like to see built-in translation! I remember Final Fantasy 11, playing with JP as an NA was very fun, and made possible EXCLUSIVELY because the game translated many common words and phrases back and forth. It turns out that [Mithra] [fun] [hole] means about the same thing in both languages.

https://www.ffxiah.com/forum/topic/8246/auto-complete-humor for example. Classics. I don't understand some, please explain them to me.

Let a bit of Chinese seep into the other versions too, and we suddenly have the Firefly world to play in.

:D S

A lot of players' English is very bad - judging from these forums ;)

Providing i18n/l10n content for Chinese makes economic sense - along with other major areas such as India etc.

You say that now, but what happens if whenever you go anywhere in open, you get hit with moon runes in every system, and then attacked for not responding to moon runes half the time? :p

You don't really need chinese characters for most of the game because it doesn't really require much english to fly the ship or play the game once you've learned the controls and gameplay. It's like real world aviation, where even international pilots are required to learn english for traffic control, navigational and airport code convention worldwide as the aviation standard. Also in the real world, the Chinese learn far more english than the other way around. That said, sure, it wouldn't hurt to have chinese wordings for ship control labels and mission board messages. But the names of most of the background galaxy locations, npc's , and structures should be left alone in english unless it's named in a specific different language.

Look, I'm as racist as many people, but having a game in another language always makes it crappier. Specific language isn't important.

Bad enough that the names are all unfamiliar runes, but having most things translated and intelligible audio is probably a bare minimum.

If they're gonna do it, they should do it right. The relevant question is: are Asian playerbases sufficient to bankroll a massive translation effort, and keeping someone on staff to translate the continuous stream of new stuff? If it is, they should probably do it. I have no idea if it is or not.

It's hard to zerg rush Asian players in ED open mode, what with networking issues. So you won't get TOO much nonsense. Hopefully. So no Ark-Chinese-invasion nonsense. Again, hopefully.

stars got translated from languages like chinese and Arabic into Western characters a while ago from Almagest's translations
Arrakis is Arabic : الراقص‎, [ar-rāqiṣ] "the dancer"
https://eddb.io/system/21510

So going forward The International Astronomical Union (IAU) handles naming conventions

Gamers are not against Chinese characters, Mandarin/Pīnyīn, Korean or Japanese, Arabic etc.. being added to the game. Don't you worry westies, everything is localized, so you will get western characters and never notice.

Besides - Tencent practically owns at Machine Translations

I'm sorry, there are not enough Chinese people to warrant the translation. I motion the game be translated into Slovenian instead. Now THAT is one numerous nation that deserves it.

I kid, I kid.
