We the Commanders of the Pilots' Federation...

It is well known that this suggestion forum is where suggestions go to die. My question is, ‘Why?’ How can a company expect to continue when they ignore so much of what their customers want? Sure Elite isn’t the only thing Frontier has, but it has the potential to be the greatest. If you look at a graph like this one (steam charts) we see that elite hit an all time high with Odyssey, and is now seems to be trying for an all time low.

Then there are posts like this one, most notably Horizon Beyonder’s comment on the 7th page. Here a simple immersion addition has been requested again and again and again and again, yet each time it has been ignored. Instead, they come out with a knew expansion, which not only hurts in the wallet (for penniless collage kids at least), but lasts all of two months before blowing up on takeoff.

FDev makes the game, sure, but we are the ones that play it. They may design it but we are the ones that use it. Every day thousands of CMDRs log on, and play. Even if all of FDev played 24/7, eating on the fly and crapping in a sock, they could not even come close to matching our man hours in gameplay. So why in the blazes will FDev not listen to us? Any intelligent individual can conclude that we know more about what the game needs then FDev does, simply because we play it more

Yet this forum remains a graveyard.

Now that I have blown off some steam, here is my suggestion to improve these forums.

Rather than having these forums being a giant free for all with dozens of posts every week, many of them duplicates, clear the forums and start fresh.

A team would review EVERY post before it became public. If the post was original enough, it would be posted for public review. If it was not original enough, it would be added as a comment onto the post it was close to, and the one who posted it would get a link to said post. If the post is thrown out for no good reason, well that’s what youtube and boycotting are good for. This would prevent the same posts (NPC crew visible on the bridge, open only, cobra IV, etc.) from being posted then lost to ether over and over and over… and over. Instead, one post could gain more and more attention until the… individuals in FDev could see that his is something the community REALLY wants. And if the post was highly controversial coughs ‘open only’, FDev could see that to.

Either way, it would streamline this forum into something better.

Unfortunately freedom of speech doesn't work like that, you would use a lot of customers if they had to be examined and edited before being posted.

If you want this sort of forum why not make it and post a link who knows it might take off, but then again it might not.

You have forgotten to look at Frontiers' annual report... they still swim in a sh*tload of money, so why should they care at all about petty suggestions made on any forum by those who gave them the money already, to be honest?

Let's get real: the developers post every now and then about what they will do, we post about whatever we want and the common section of the two sets is null most of the time (except a few random coincidences once in a blue moon).

The forums are kept 'alive' by volunteer moderators. God bless them.

I think the problem is that players keep suggesting contradictory things. In that situation, FD's best move is to take no notice.

Happy users don't need to visit the forums. So the forums will always look like the game is terrible, because they are only full of the complaints. Only full of the loudest complaints at that. There might be 1,000,000 silent users playing, while 1,000 angry users are on the forum trying to change features or gameplay everyone else is enjoying until the game only appeals to that 1000 person group, and only if they are the type who can actually be pleased, instead of the ones who will always find something wrong.

Based on monitored player numbers, that million silent users are so silent that they have not even played the game for a good while now...

Yes, this is how every game forum is.

The million was an obvious hyperbole used to make a point.

However, FDev did report 500,000 monthly players last year - but you dont see them coming to forums. Only the regular thousand or so that are here to complain about the game or about the complainers

Actually, not true in my experience... Look at, for example, the forum of Factorio. A lot of happy players sharing designs, mods, etc. Not that many complainers, as the devs are responsive and actually fix the emerging issues by systematically squashing bugs, while they have actually revamped the whole game and have added a lot of new content in the past years.

You may be right, but AFAIK that kind of sharing is done on third party sites for ED, so move those designs and mods sharing folks to inara and the like, and your small by comparison number of complainers again turns into the majority of people left on the forum, but is still just as non representative of the player base as a whole.
