Weapon and suits upgrades grind is broken.

The grind to upgrade suits and weapons is broken

So, I have been playing odyssey in a normal way, doing missions and collecting materials to upgrade my suits and weapons, but I noticed that even looting the entire settlement I still couldn't find some materials and the ones I got are in very small quantities for what is required to upgrade your gear.

And if I look on YouTube or Google about how to get some of these materials, all I find are guides about finding a certain place and keep there reloging from the main menu. The same method that is used to collect materials to engineer ship modules.

It's really sad that we still have a boring and broken system like this in the new expansion, just like with the ships, where you have to choose between grinding the same place over and over, without playing the game itself, or try to pick up the materials naturally while playing, but it will probably take months or even longer before you can upgrade your stuff.

The fact that every “guide” depends on some kind of exploit, simply shows how broken this system is, and this is really discouraging me from continuing to play.

Not to mention RNG, even if your are in a settlement that should have the materials that you need, that dosen’t mean that they will be there.

What you guys think?

If Elite has any shred of session instance recovery, it'd put an end to that pretty quick - to log back in within an hour and it's similar to how you left it.

To be fair, though.. relog if you want. To me, it just makes a task feel more repetitive and grindy.

So i am going to take it slow, Settlement by settlement, Impact site by Impact site etc. At least i won't run out of things to do on the ground in the comming months while they Fix/optimize the game.

Absolutely. We've been a long time without new content, definitely intend to savour this one myself.

A lot of people do reach for the relog OP but imo you don't have to. Yesterday I was playing two bases off against each other. One abandonned, giving suit schematics, the other a settlement for relatively easy power regulator 'removal' (ok, theft). Both different factions; go to one (take regulator, incur fine while leaving .. was using ebreach) got to other to pay off fine, get suit schematic go back to where the settlement had restored it's own power and I don't have a fine anymore. Collected 5 power regulators. I did come up a bit short on suit schematics as bases are never exactly the same twice but a couple of actual restore power missions ought to sort that. Some might call it grind but the power reg missions were each different as suspicion of me rose, so I really enjoyed myself.

The whole point of rare items and high level engineering is that it’s hard to do, takes time and gives the player something to work towards....and keeps you playing too I suppose.

The problems only really arise with human desire to have everything now added to an ability to exploit the system (plus ready information on how to do this.) The only answer is for the ability to exploit a system to be removed - which will create a huge stink by a large number of the player base.

As a result the only thing we can do is make our own decision on how we want to play the game and accept the results of that.

I had assumed, from what was said on previous livestreams regarding certain relog abilities, that FDev were looking to close that down - it doesn’t look like that was the case.🤷‍♂️

"Hard" isnt "unable to find because it's broken", "needle in haystack search because you get no indication of where to look" or neither "super repetitive cheese". No, "hard" is something completely else.

OP, there are reports of gear spawning pre-engineered. Which is a great boon if true and can relieve you from hours on hours of frustration. There is a loose group dedicated to figuring out how it works. Somewhere in the Ody subchannel is their thread and they post findings - you may be able to grab some gear from these reports or get lucky finding your own.

Once EDO releases on console expect mission pay and engineering to be rebalanced...
Once they have the data to ensure missions in EDO do not pay higher than base game the pay can go up the rewards and types in mat can also go up...

It will not go to high because then EDO becomes PAY TO WIN then, Pay $$$ for DLC to earn more in game credits than base game... Horizons was stopped from being Pay $$$ to win more credits and Any extreme high pay ground missions in time got capped but it just took way to long...

Solo and private group exsit so you not forced to fight PVP engineered players its a choice...

Not broken, but pretty unbalanced - with so many upgrades requiring the same mats I can see why people would be attracted to the relog.

I'd rather they address the shared mats limit which stops you just collecting stuff - as you quickly run out of space. And there's 190+ things you can find, so good luck tracking which ones you need - I know I was skipping some data because 'that sounds like it has no use', and now I find it is required for an engineer unlock :(

Not having so many upgrades require MI / Power Regs etc would be a start (or drop the numbers). And as for the engineer who wants 40 opinion polls .... finding the first 5 is fun, not looking forward to the next 35 as much ...

Well to make things clear, I’m not defending the relog exploit, don’t like using it either.

I just think the way ED grind works, is really bad, and broken.
You get materials from settlements and impact sites and etc. However some materials only spawn in certain type of settlements and there’s RNG involved, that kind of settlement may have a certain material, but you can go there 5 times and never find, because RNG.
And not every type of mission allows you to loot the entire place, not without killing everyone or wasting 40 minutes opening lockers without been seen.

Besides that, just to give another exemple.

Artemis suit, made for exploration! Will you be able to find the materials necessary to upgrade the suit by using it to explore the universe? Nope, go open some lockers in your maverick suit.

Dominator suit, made for combat! Will you be able to find the materials necessary to upgrade the suit by using it to hunt down pirates or fighting for your faction in conflict zones? Again, nope, use the maverick one to open lockers.

This upgrade and grids system can’t get anymore broken than this.

I don't need to have my suits maxed out inside a week of playing, so it doesn't bother me much that the progress is slow. I don't mind RNG too - without it there would be simple mindless farming once you figure out where to go.
I'm not sure what to think about 40 Opinion Polls requirement f.ex - I haven't encountered them yet. Maybe they are very rare, in which case it might be too much, or maybe there's a bug which limits their appearance, or I haven't found out where they are commonly appearing.
The fact we can't remove engineering is annoying - It will just mean lots of suit and gun variations cluttering my inventory - with slow material gathering I don't want to loose anything, so I'll keep everything just in case.
It's also annoying that I have no idea what lots of those materials or data I find might be useful for - I'm afraid to sell or trade something that might proove to be very rare and important later.

100% this, plus the whole taking a step back to how engineering used to be...

engineering 1.0 on ships was such a horrific gameplay experience, i dont know why they did it all over again with legs, such a huge disappointment.

If they remove the grind or make it better, you may see that there's no or extremely few gameplay loops. That's not an odyssey thing, that was already the case with horizon.
And for reloging, at least for ships, "playing the game" to engi them is fine when it's your 1st or 2nd ship. But when it's your 22th and you don't want to hear about pve anymore? Nop. So you relog, to make it as fast as possible.
