Newcomer / Intro Weapons not firing?

Hola,

Recently got enough $ to upgrade some weapons and other modules. left the hangar with 1200 power, 1148 when deployed. Got in a fight and my weapons wouldn't fire. i was given no indication via the in-ship interface as to what was causing it.

Went back and put in some cheaper beams that left me at 1028ish deployed power and everything worked fine.

do we have to leave a certain amount of power over what is being displayed? If so, what are the numbers? Can a ship equip a turret it cant use, even if it has the power?

Thanks in advance,

Solreal

Did you have them mapped to fire groups? If you are out of power, it should warn you when you deploy. That happened to me once; my rail guns drained my power so badly my life support turned off until I put them away.

thanks for the reply.

I did have them mapped. And while troubleshooting i remapped them to separate groups, disabled a group, reset the module priorities, and even turned half entirely off. still neither would work (cannon or beam) until i replaced them.

I've had that problem with turreted weapons. I had to switch them to forward fire. Sometimes after I fire them at a target I can switch them back to target only and they auto track. I'm not really sure why thus happens and haven't been able to find it in the forums.

That is when it isn't a power issue.

Interesting. I didn't know that they could be altered between forward fire and tracking. I'll look for that setting and see if that was the issue. Thanks!

Go to the right hand panel, last tab. I think its about half way down. When you select it should cycle through three options, I thinks its fire at will (or free fire or something like that), target only and forward fire. Forward always seems to work but the other two only seem to work sometimes and generally only at larger targets. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but they just don't work consistently for me.

Awesome, thanks for the info!

I found someone else gas posted this in another thread. May explain my problem.

Fire at will - they do their own thing, turn it off if you want control
Target only - they shoot at your target but only if its hostile
Forward Fire - operates like fixed gun

Like Evyl Minkey says...
If you are using turrets guns then they will only fire at hostile targets(Red ones) unless you have them set as "Forward fire",
but in this mode you might as well save the money and buy a "fixed" gun they do more damage than both gimballed and turret versions does and are cheaper...

And Personately I would never use "Fire at will" but use "Target only" mode because this also indicate to you(if you can see your guns) where your target are compared to your view since the guns will turn whenever you switch target and turn in direction of the target... But for the most time I fly with fixed guns to help me learn how to aim and hit the target that I want and I almost never hit a "friendly or police" by accident this way.... ;)

Thanks for the reply and the info!

The weapons i loaded that failed were actually the most expensive i could buy at the station i was in, they were 500k a piece (fitting a Vulture). i haven't had a chance to repurchase the ship and turrets to test but i'm pretty sure you guys are right about the "fire at will" etc settings being the culprit...the guys i was trying to shoot at were yellow (wanted) in RES sites.

And i did get two bounties on myself for misfiring, so your info will be taken to heart.

Btw, would be nice if you could transfer credits to cops instead of being KOS for a paltry 200cr bounty that you just got 30 seconds earlier.

unfortunately the price of the weapons doesn't reflect the effectiveness of them I also tried having two large beam lasers on my volture and they cost much more than the two large burst laser I use now... I think it was around 1,6 mio for the beams and only 130.000 cr for those burst both of them fixed and the burst actually feel like the take down enemmy shield faster than the beams does I know that they nerfed the beams at some point but I still think that it is stupid to have weapons that cost a 1/10 of another but still is just as good if not better and it also takes less energy to use... In that way Elite has failed IMO that is something Fdev should considere when they make change to how well the different kind's of weapon should perform just like the they totally destroyed the meaning of having misiles they are worthless now only NPC use the and only the lower ranks of the NPC and that is a shame I loved the way it use to be when you could take down someone shield and after that send a misile up their pipe and do a few more shot and finish them off now they are not worth buying because of the limited number and their price compared to multicannons or burst lasers... :(
