Ship Builds & Load Outs weapons vs shields ?

After reading the last diaries, I saw the phrase:
Q: There are different types of weapons in Odyssey, could you tell us why a player might use them?
Way back when we started prototyping combat, it became quite clear to us early on that the ship combat has some really interesting concepts behind it, so we basically stole them! The premise is that kinetic weapons are good against armour, lasers are good against shields, and plasma re decent against both but not quite as good as the other two. When it comes to choosing a loadout, you'll want to choose your weapons to be the most efficient, so you may want lasers to take out shields and kinetic to finish them off. If you're working as a team, you can specialise, one player can be ant-shield, and another can finish them off via kinetic.

I do not understand what we are talking about if after engineers all the protection reach 50% ?

Maybe in the case of kinetics it is talking about the corrosion effect? Then what should the lasers have against the shields?

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far far before engineers, there were thermal weapons (lasers) which were effective against shields,
and kinetic weapons which were effective against hull.
Now there is only the Plasma Accelerator.
It seems that these diaries were written recently. Don't the developers of Odyssey know that there are engineers in the game?

It's a premise.
Also not all resistances are 50 automatically.
The introduction of engineers into the game completely destroyed the classification of weapons. I was very surprised to read about it in the new diaries, most likely there will also be engineers and everyone will walk around with 1 type of weapon and the rest will not be effective.

Yeah I was really confused about that dev quote there -- Plasmas "not quite as good as the other two?" until I remembered that basic shields and hulls have negative resistance against the respective damage type.
