Weird Performance Issues, Especially in RES sites

OP, All the symptoms you mention have been reported as bugs by various people. Check out the PC bug reporting forum. The stuttering exiting SC affected me, however since downgrading from a 4GB RX 480 to a 2GB GTX 960, the stuttering has gone totally. Dxdiag did report a memory leak in ED64. Maybe it only has an effect on cards with more ram, I dunno...

I have RX 480 8 GB after market OC version (Red Devil), its similar to 1070, I rly love it, it works so good with other games, not ED tho :p which kinda sucks because I bought this pc mainly for ED and doing youtube stuff.

And yes I've been checking bug section of the forums from time to time, but had not found anything that would help me sadly.. Bummer.

I hope that commanders update will solves this, but probably wont hold my breath :(

Hard to say without seeing a "live" performance monitor on your machine. This could be due to a number of things. Also, if you have a fixed-size page file rather than a system-managed page file, this can also be a contributor.

Fixed-size page file? Whats that

Hi everyone,

So for the last few months my machine seemed to be plagued by weird performance issues only in ED.

Mainly when I jump between instances (to super cruise, out of super cruise, relog the game etc) my game always seems to stutter for about 10 seconds very heavily and then goes to normal, silky smooth, I have a pretty good machine.

The above is annoying, but no really game breaking, but I also noticed that in RES sites when I first jump in the FPS would be smooth and steady, but after maybe 10-15 minutes, it would start dropping , first by 10fps, then by 20fps, and it would stay there unless I would log out and log back in again, which then again it would give me 10-15 minutes of smooth fps, and then the same thing would happen, first drop by about 10, than by about 20, and it would stay low.

So at first I thought somethings was wrong with my machine, I looked for solutions online for a long time, even changed few pieces of my hardware (like RAM, and power supply), and I still couldn't figure out whats happening , even tho other games like For Honor, like GTA V would run smooth and perfect without any hickups.

Only yesterday I realized that this perhaps may not be an issue of my machine, when I was playing in a RES site with a friend.

Just as usual, at first it was smooth, but then we both started to experience identical issues at the same time.

First FPS dropped, then sound started lagging (popping, going silent for a few seconds, than back to normal)

Then the game would drop to as low as 10 fps and even freeze for 5-10 seconds before going back to normal, and as we were talking over Discord, we identified that this was happening to us both at the exact same instance.

What was happening?.... Does anyone have any ideas?

Thank you in advance

Had this happening to me during the last CG in a res site. I was in solo. The CZ audio stutter it's something I've been dealing since the multi-cannons infinite ammo bug times.

OP same here, expecially when too much condas aroun.
For those that will blame my pc i have i7 6700k, gtx1070(OS in perfect shape and running good more demanding games than ED) and good internet connection while fps counter remain stable even game stutter.

It started with 2.2 update, maybe it will be fixed in 2.3

Fixed-size page file? Whats that
Fixed.jpg

That would be unticking the box "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" in the far right window, and entering values into "Custom Size"
It use to be, circa 1990, that setting a fixed-size page file could actually improve performance, and some times it could - usually on servers, not workstations, but it became a sort of "trendy" thing to do, and some folks still do it. It usually doesn't do anyone any favors.

HOWEVER... it can be helpful to, once in a while, choose the "No paging file" option, reboot, manually defragment your hard drive, then turn System managed page file back on, and retick the Automatically [...] box and reboot again.

Now, if you're running a solid state drive, this isn't going to be much help, as SSD's don't fragment.

And bare in mind, I'm grabbing screenshots like this from my work PC, which is Windows 7, so Windows 10 will look a little different, but the information is in nearly the same place.

Try deleting your virtualcache if using it. enable if not.

It's not connected to the page file - I have (and have had) similar symptoms on a range of PCs from laptops to desktops on multiple OSes, including my current rig, where I haven't touched the page file at all.

Personally, I suspect some kind of issue with the Cobra engine - I've had the same issues on multiple GPUs with multiple different drivers on multiple different boxes for two years. It's something fundamental.

I don't think it's particularly client side at all, too many people with the same issue.

My Ye Olde Laptop is probably the best tool for checking stuttering and FPS drops, because everything runs so slowly anyway, stuttering would bring my system to a stand still. Lol
But, it's generally consistent over a 4G tether connection.

Your RES you're fighting in, isn't within sight of a landable planet or more importantly, multiple landable planets, is it?

My pc is old, so having several planets in view can be quite detrimental to my FPS. And cause oddities like, hyperspace planets and such. Lol

There's no obvious fix. What works for some, doesn't work for others. Whether they be AMD/NVIDIA or AMD/Intel. It's strange for me that I have a perfectly working game after a GPU downgrade. It doesn't look quite as nice and I can't play in 1440p with 75fps but otherwise very smooth in 1080p at 75 fps with v-sync on. I can ramp everything up to max with the GTX 960 and get terrible fps but still no ten second stutter exiting supercruise. My son has a 1060 6GB teamed with an overclocked AMD 8320 cpu and his Elite experience is also super smooth.

I have the exact same problem, it becomes gradually unplayable.

I have had this issue for a while, trying to pinpoint what it is. If you have nothing else to say, then thanks for not posting back.

Well, I apologise for making a joke. Apart from that, I feel that's important to say, along with some suggestions, but never mind, I don't want to make you sad.

Btw people have been noticing it again recently, around the time that the first bunch of npc miners leave for new spawns. Some argue it's to do with server loads etc but I've not had it myself.
