So I decided to try my hand at running around outside the bubble (Ceos runs don't count to me), and took a quick jaunt out to the California Nebula. Much to my surprise, I found a planet in the nebula with a base on it! Cool! Couldn't get any passenger runs or missions as I kept getting a 'cannot connect to database' error. Could this be a recently added base for some expansion effort?

Then, I decided to take the long road back and stop by and take a gander at the Witch Head Nebula, which is only about 800ly from me. It was weird in that when I tried to plot a route, it would typically get to somewhere between 60 and 70% and then throw a routing error. Every time. So I tried to plot a route about halfway in-between, and there are a significant number of stars that you cannot route to because you need an "Unknown Permit".

Is there something going on out here in preparation for the 2.3 release?

There are now 2 Alliance bases in the California Nebula. Both created by CG's one recently in december and the other a few months beforehand.

A few Barnacle systems around the nebula , 3.
California Sector BA-A E6 is one of those, the first Alliance base established out here, after the Feds and Empire fought over the barnacles in the Pleiades.
Curious too how they also found their base upon a Cone Fungus site, or they keep the Cone Fungus as a garden in proximity of the base, as the Cone fungus dont tend to inhabit non volcanic planets.
You will find Mic Turner base at that location, centre of the California nebula.
More recent Alliance base established after another CG was not mensioned where it was located but that is in HIP 18077 iirc around 40-50 lyrs outside the California nebula. I'm sure its HIP 18077 should be just outside Cali Neb, too drunk and out of game to check thats correct though, but sure its right. Due to the fact i found the base overall. Also has a Fungus cone garden, volcanism is on planet so less of a anomoly.
Place is called Mahon Research Institure or centre , i think. Been a few weeks since last visit and i travel a lot.

You wont find any missions at these bases or many like them, far from bubble. At best donation missions, donate cash, meds etc. No viable target locations to generate regular missions. More special locations for story events.

Things will no doubt happen here in time, they are new as is the Alliance, Time will tell how that develops but its a part of some story. While in the region , check out their fungal cone gardens , if you havnt seen one.

Dont shoot them to harvest materials since they are within the No fire zone of the base. you can farm mats elsewhere easy enough.

Some place where events may happen, depending how the Alliance develops, they are still very young. I suspect things may unfold here later, not before 2.3 but around then , well no spoilers , other things around there too.
Not just there, many places, but a place of ' interest '
